Rt. 517 Truck traffic accident

Just saw this on the Hackettstown PD Facebook page:

"Rt517 is closed in both directions between Franklin St and Miller St due to a truck vs telephone pole crash."

I'm at work in a different county right now but of course my house is smack in the middle of this closure. Does anyone have any more information on this accident?

Re: Rt. 517 Truck traffic accident

25 MPH?

Probably did that to avoid hitting a deer

Wow, and this only a short while after a pole down the block was leaning into the street!

Thank you jeffjohn! They couldn't possibly have been going the speed limit there. I hope no one was hurt.

do not make assumptions, you do not know the whole story.

FYI, when High Street is closed there is no speed limit and there are no stop signs on Sharp Street.

So I am guessing this is why we don't have power. Hope everyone is okay.

jeffjohn: I do not believe there is such a thing as "no speed limit". I believe NJ State Motor Vehicle Laws designate a speed limit for residential streets, highways, etc. That is the limit, unless otherwise posted. I think it is 25 for local streets.

Re: Rt. 517 Truck traffic accident

An Autoban in Hackettstown? I'm in. LOL

you know if I was the owner of that company that jeffjohn already assumes is guilty(and photographed) and it was a decision to hit the pole instead of head on or a pedestrian I would be a little pissed by his post..that would be like jeffjohn is jeff Johnson on the corner of sharp and cook in case he wants to talk to him face to face.

Wow. I don't know exactly how this happened, but I tell you for a fact that same vehicle came into my lane while we were heading opposite direction of each other on Rt 517, about 1/4 mile from the accident scene. My guess is either texting while driving or a medical emergency.

Good one Booster90, and probably no need to get any statements from any possible witnesses again.

@wow, Jeffjohn posted a picture, which is relevant, and his right, He also questioned the driver going 25, which also seems very legitimate considering the damage. Zero wrong with either!

BeerFan sounds like today was your lucky day.

Road is still closed from Miller to Franklin on High St as of 2:30pm.
Jeffjohn, there are stop signs on every corner of Sharp St! Do you just drive thru them when on that road?

Pretty sure jeffjohn was being sarcastic, as in, when folks are forced to detour onto Sharp St, some or many? drive too fast and run through the stop signs.
Greg, since Sharp St is only 3 blocks it won't make much of an Autoban :-)

Glad the photo was posted, I had no idea they did landscape removal as well!

Hope all are safe!

A friend of mine works in a business close to there. She tells me that pole was hit like 3 times in the within a year! The two others closest to it were also taking out by vehicles. Very strange. There are others within a 100 yards that have been there for 25+ years but that one is replaced a few times a year. It's not even in a problematic area either.

Wtf is a loop. Where is the loop, has the loop been removed for everyone's safety? Sounds as legit as the driver who landed in some guys living room, avoiding the deer on Lawrence. It also mentions he has $500.00 Newark municipal court traffic warrant. hmmm I'm guessing Newark has a loop problem too. If anyone hits any inanimate objects tomorrow I would suggest using the I was avoiding a leprechaun alibi..

"Failure to install an interlock device."

Does that mean prior DWI? I don't think I understand an interlock device inregard to this particular incident.

On another note, I am glad that the driver is doing well. Poles are not usually something to walk away from after cracking it in two...
