Washer Repair

I know this has been discussed before and I searched old threads but they're pretty much out of date
Can anyone recommend a good local appliance repairman? We're having washing machine troubles!

What is the issue? Maybe we can talk you through fixing it yourself if you are handy.

Might save you some money.

All Jersey Appliance repair in Budd Lake. Rich showed up on time (same day!) and fixed my washer by removing a stuck sock. No parts needed. (973) 219-0956 (double check that number)

Same as maja2. I googled the problem and fixed it myself. It was a baby sock stuck in the debris filter.

Operator, what did he say to your wife? If he told her she needed a new machine then charged for diagnostic I can understand that. If he was rude in some way I understand. Please clarify.

That was the problem he charged for comming out to look at it but did nothing my wife said he was just degrading to her. Long story short got rid of the appliance got another off Craig's list

Why would you expect a business to have an employee, work vehicle, insurance, tools, website, advertising, etc., etc. – and come take a look at your appliance for free?

Um its called an estimate

That's not an estimate, it's a service call. They have to come out to see what the problem is, on their time, with their resources. If it was something they could repair or replace, they MIGHT deduct the service call fee from the bottom line, but that's not always the case.

"He was just degrading to her"?
Then I would have kicked him out and he would have received absolutely no payment. End of story.

If you made an appointment with a company, that you owe them for the service call regardless of whatever possible disagreement or argument you may have. We do not know his side of the story, the wife may have been less than pleasant to him when he had to give the bad news that the machine was not repairable.

I'll bet if you paid by cc you could get it back.

I bet you can't. Well, you can try- but there can easily be repercussions.

If there is any documentation that the customer had an appointment, especially a signed receipt- if they don't pay or try to play games like CC chargeback they could be sent to collections, reported to the credit bureaus, or charged with theft of services at the local police station.

Just because emotions are involved doesn't mean the customer can skip out on the bill.

Clearly from what he replied above- "Um it's called an estimate"... he doesn't understand or is misinformed. So it is safe to say that his wife believes as he does- that since no repair was done, the guy should not get paid for his diagnostic trip. Sounds to me like that is where the tension started. I googled the name of his business and it looks like his reviews are good.

For everyone-

Appliance repair companies that say 'no service call charge' with repair, for the most part, simply charging a higher repair cost to recover the service charge that they are 'not charging' you. They are covering their expenses in one way or another.

Appliance repair isn't like a roofer or contractor who do large jobs costing thousands of dollars and can afford to give 'free' estimates to a couple people in order to land a big job.

Josh their were no emotions we just wanted to no of the appliance was worth fixing I paid the fee no problem the problem it's he didn't do any thing no diagnosis he didn't even take a tool out

An experienced repairman has seen many many thousands of machines. He will be extremely familiar with their common problems, failures, noises, causes and solutions.

You called a professional- you are paying for his knowledge. The guys that know their stuff can be quick and efficient. Many times a correct diagnosis does not require opening the toolbox nor a lot of time. The guys that are there for a long time are the ones that don't know what they are doing, taking apart the wrong stuff, guessing and putting in wrong parts.

Just because you or your wife think he didn't do anything does not mean that is true. Based on any particular complaint- won't start, won't agitate, won't drain, won't spin, noisy, etc - there are generally only a few things that can cause each issue. So if you know what areas to look for or listen to, then process of elimination is simple. Mental flow chart.

Besides- as I said, we haven't heard his side of the story. And you weren't there. You are a 3rd party going off what your wife told you. Correct me if I wrong?

I'll email this thread to the guy so he gets a chance to speak.

(Btw- my guess, knowing nothing other than washing machine and he wasn't there long- failed tub bearings, noisy in the spin cycle. Am I right?)

I ended up using Hartman's, as recommended by Gus in a thread above. My pump motor was shot, and after looking at videos of how to repair, it was not an easy fix! Very happy with their service! It's a husband and wife operation, they came to hackettstown from kennilon. Very nice, honest people!

Kennilon to Hackettstown is an insane drive for 1 repair. The guy must not be busy.

adding to this thread.. Does anyone have a more recent recommendation for someone to repair an LG washing machine?

What is the best way to clean a top loader washing machine? I've used baking powder and vinegar but it didn't work. Thanks!
