What’s the point of blacking out the license plate?

Is this at the hospital emergency room? Looks like it. Might actually be an emergency...

You blacked out the plate? Were you worried the police were going to run it?

My question is, why did you black out the license plate???

Dadof3
Sep '18

@3wbdwnj because I was standing right next to him as he sat there for almost 45 minutes twiddling his thumbs

Theses
Sep '18

@youfriend Wait in till it’s one of your relatives that needs a handicap spot and I bet you won’t be saying that

Theses
Sep '18

@dadof3 The point of me blacking out the plate was not to get someone in trouble it was to simply point out the people room force the law think that they’re above it

Theses
Sep '18

If you stood next to him for "45 minutes", did you ask him why he parked there or did you say nothing and come on this forum and post anonymously to complain?

I will say I do agree he should not park there- that is wrong in my opinion..

with all the dash cams they have, its possible they have you or your car on camera if you were next to them

Farmer John Farmer John
Sep '18

So you were next to him for 45 minutes? In the hospital? So they had cop stationed at hospital doing what? And blacking out plate is ridiculous. Its not like this post was intended to do anything but cause someone a problem.

Sep '18

@Theses if you don't want to get them in trouble, than why post a picture!!!!! You could have just described what you saw!!

The officer may have been waiting for blood work results for DWI that was brought in

Happy6 Happy6
Sep '18

And happy he should stay in a handicap spot for that? Honestly this just seems like someone drove by the handicap spot two times in less than 5 mins. Got mad and posted. If he was there for 45mins that would be an issue for sure.

Yesimpc Yesimpc

These apparently stood next to him for 45 minutes. He as to know why the cop was there. Let's not guess he can tell everyone no?

Justpassinthru
Sep '18

Instead of putting the pd on blast like you wanted to do. Obviously you wanted to cause a problem instead of nicely asking the officer why he was parked in said parking spot .

Some people are afraid of getting on the bad side of any police officer, especially if the cop works in the same town you live in. There’s always a trail...especially with computers, and with this particular site being device sensitive, all the more reason to keep your “ head down “ regarding complaints against local police or showing the license plate. I guess the OP wanted to give the cop a “heads up” that EVERYONE is being watched, not just us. You guys all know that police officers and their families get more leeway. Been like that since the inception of law enforcement. Not saying it’s right or fair. Just one of the law enforcement perks. Take my advice....unless something really terrible is going on, don’t mess with the cops, unless you plan on moving out of state.

Maybe it was Joe Swanson

Itiswhatitis
Sep '18

Perhaps he was waiting while another officer escorted a handicapped prisoner inside. If he was in the vehicle, and suddenly all of the other handicapped spaces filled up, he might have moved. Were there other open spaces?

@Michael that's a funny suggestion. Asking a cop a question? that's a felony.

Regardless of being fair or not, the reality is there are different rules for those in positions of authority. It's just one of those unpleasant facts of life that will never change.

What a suprise

Next time knock on the window if you needed the spot dont stare for 45 mins and then take a pic and blast about it on a forum and make it something its not...

I have to question the judgement of the cops of Hackettstown after seeing this. He/she could have parked ANYWHERE. On the grass, on a curb, on really any surface at all. And he picked a handicapped spot? He could have parked by a fire hydrant, on the helipad. Need I go on? I feel this is an example of police bullying the handicapped.

I am sure the officer is there for offical business. Before you say, but they have cameras, they are not always the answer. Most cameras are pointing from a high angle usually obscured by a hat. Also some of those cameras don't work. He could have been there observing, getting information on things such as a licence plate of a car.
If you needed the spot just pull up and ask if you can have it. It's not a big deal. If you're afraid there not much one can do for you i guess.
Also legal blood work for a DUI is drawn there and sealed then sent out to a processing center.
One to think about is the threats healthcare workers receive from patients and family members because of healthcare matters. He may have been waiting on the property until the discharge and they were off the property.
Also someone could have been terminated and he was there after it took place. It's not an easy thing to receive a termination or to deliver one. Everyone reacts differently.
So many reasons as to why. I'll be sure to thank him next time i see him.

I dont believe there is an ordinance in town covering the hospital property so a parking ticket isn't issued here. Security can boot your car or put a sticker on your window.
If your an employee they can handle it a different way.

Obviously an above the law attitude which most cops have these days. Protect and serve, yeah right.

For the most part, out here, negotiate best contract, work a lot of overtime the last 3 years, retire ASAP.

PANYNJ is the top Police/Fire compensator in the nation. They don't affect our taxes but the bridge tolls, airport fees, etc. are inflated because of this...

They changed it apparently

PFRS Tier 1 Members (enrolled on or before May 21, 2010) — Enter your last 12 months of salary. DO NOT include overtime, bonuses, etc.

PFRS Tier 2 or Tier 3 Members (enrolled after May 21, 2010) — Enter the average of your last 3 fiscal years (July-June) of salary. DO NOT include overtime, bonuses, etc.

We’re all wrong lol

I do not know why he was parked there, and speculating and bad mouthing the police is really tacky....If your house gets robbed etc. who are you going to call?...I have lived in this area for a long time and have had dealings with the police, they have ALWAYS been polite, kind and helpful. If you are concerned feel free to go to the police station and file a complaint, other wise please please stop bad mouthing our police, their job is hard enough....

PAPD have the best police compensation hands down. Still great but someone I know who started in the late 60s was something else...

C.J. did you read the handicapped parking signs at the hospital?..The ordinance is listed there along with the penalties

Bug3
Sep '18

What a stupid question. If Her house gets broken into, she will call the police, whose salary she helps pay through her taxes. And police are not allowed to break the laws anymore than the rest of us. The law is that you cannot park in a handicapped spot. Those spots are there for a reason. If the police are too lazy to walk a few feet, and if they are not willing to obey and uphold laws, why are they police officers ?

It’s not tacky to criticize wrongdoing. It’s tacky to suggest that police have a special pass in society. It is also tacky for able-bodied people to Park in handicapped spots.

If you read the paper maybe he was involved with the accident and drunk driver so he rushed in the hospital. There is dumpsters, ambulances all over in that lot. Once the emergent situation was over he should have moved the car. Best decision probably not but maybe he thought it was at the time, maybe an error in judgement.

I'd be willing to bet that a high % of people who park in handicapped spots "borrowed" the plaque from a relative. Laziness is truly an epidemic.

Maybe a cop should have enough common sense not to park in a handicap spot

Bug3
Sep '18

Ok, forget about whether he should have parked in the handicap spot. Can we call the cop out for not fitting into 1 space?

Let’s talk about all the violators who park in the fire zone and handicap spots at Shop Rite. I’ve witnessed everything from teenage drivers to soccer moms and all in between. All in a hurry and need to get in and out ASAP. Apparently they are also above the law.
