Backyard Birds 2019
Saw a pileated woodpecker fly overhead. Really neat white tattoos on the underside of the wings. Landed in a clump of trees but couldn’t find him. They like to “run” around the trunk to avoid you. So big to hide so well.
we saw our first Scarlet Tanager for the first time............not here long enough for a picture - but gorgeous....hope it returns

Glad this thread started. I think my mom has seen one of those tanagers before when she was in PA. Very good bird.
I almost started the thread a couple of weeks ago when I saw this one at my feeder- rose grosbeak.
PW was back yesterday; think we have a new friend. Quite the brash call coming from that one, ez to tell when he's here. Will try to snap a shot once I can really get closer.

Saw this little guy trying to pick up his prescription at Walgreens this morning... ;)
I thought he was someone’s lost pet..
Some nice man scooped him up as he was right in front of the door on the ground and placed him on top of the garbage bin .. poor little thing.. what kind of bird is it?
Yes I also have a wood pecker who likes my Humming Bird feeder.
I would like to thank Iris for continuing the "Backyard Birds" forum. My Wife started the forum several years ago. She lost her battle with cancer in February of 2018. She would be happy to know it is still going on.
GC, and 4catmom, those pictures are of a Rose-breasted Grossbeak; which are ALSO awesome birds!
Sorry Rick but there is no rose colored breast on that bird- the rose breasteds haven't been around our feeder for at least a month but we've had an abundance of woodpeckers - Sorry the picture isn't better (taken through windows)
4catmom - I don't think he was talking about your pictures from a week ago. I think he was talking about our pictures from May 18 & May 19. We both posted grosbeaks then.
