Binge TV Series
Been trying to binge out on TV during our off-line-reality show. Need something to sink my teeth into for an hour or two a day for weeks on end. Walking Dead, Oak Island, Ghosthunters, can't imagine a second viewing for any of that or most shows.
A Peacock suggestion: Psyche ---- seven years of zany, followed by Psyche the movie, then Psyche 2:Lassie Come Home. Worth a second watch if already seen.
Then, on YouTube; Taskmaster --- Seasons 1 - 10. May start a little slow, give it two seasons and see if you warm up to it. All I know is my sister gave me a thought puzzle last week and I got it in minutes ---- Thank you TM training! First rule, break the rules!
Sounds like Yellowstone could be my next, any other ideas? Think we got a long, cold, dark, 3 1/2 months of binging in front of us.
Love Psych!!!

So many on Netflix that are great to binge and now that the cold weather is coming!
A lot of cool old horror flicks on Peacock premium. Also can binge shows like King of Queens. There's a Schwimmer show Intelligence that is British is really good.

Can't go wrong with Yellowstone . I've been telling people about Cinemax's Warrior whose season 2 has way surpassed the first season so far - WC library has season one . On Netflix Santa Clarita Diet is as funny as anything you'll find , Rectify is a smoldering southern Gothic tale in small town Georgia of a man released from death row after 19 years for a crime he didn't commit - excellently cast and acted ! On Prime Billy Bob Thornton plays a burnt out lawyer on the comeback trail in Goliath and Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is about a 1950s housewife who becomes a stand up comedian .
Currently when nothing is on I binge a few episodes of West Wing on Netflix . I never watched it when it aired and it's pretty funny , kind of reminds me of Ally McBeal . The dark gritty ultra - violent hero series Titans has both seasons available at the WC library , nothing like the CW shows and the big guy Alan Ritchson who plays Hank/Hawk has been cast as the lead in Prime's upcoming Jack Reacher series .

I love to watch the "Finding Your Roots" series, just because, well , you know.
"Lone Star Law", because animals and Game Wardening, similar, but different from "North Woods Law" and "Alaska State Troopers", which I also watch. Stopped watching "Cops" and the other Live PD show.
Newer shows that I like, but don't have enough episodes yet or may not have 2nd seasons coming include:
"The Outsider" I understand even Stephen King liked this adaptation. I loved it, even though different from the book. I wish they would continue the series for several seasons before throwing in the towel. I know there were hints that more could come!
"Watchmen" Series spun from the movie.
"Washington" You know, about that old George Dude.
"Snowpiercer"
"Betty" - Girls in NYC try to break into the male dominated skate scene and parks. Funny moment was when they give a flyer to another girl for a skate in and the guy next to her asks if he can have one and come too. "Sorry, you're not a girl", she says to Tony Hawk. Cracked me up there. Ironic, since I'm sure he would have been glad to teach them a trick or two and help them out!
"Enslaved" Tracing the Atlantic African slave trade.
So far, it does not, and likely will not cover the Americans and Europeans captured and either ransomed or enslaved from the 16th to 19th centuries by the Barbary Pirates of the Ottoman Empire in North Africa.
I would love to see a series on this subject. The new United States was directly involved from 1784 to 1815. That finally came to an end for the most part after the First Barbary War. That included an expedition of U.S. Marines and 500 mercenaries that fought the "Battle of Derna", giving rise to the famous line in the Marine Corps Hymn "...to the shores of Tripoli".
Happy 245th Birthday today, Nov. 10, 2020, all you Leathernecks out there!
It took the 2nd Barbary War to put a full end to it. It was definitely hypocritical in a way that we engaged in slavery here, but had a problem with them doing it. Of course you can rationalize that they took our ships to build their own Navy too, but the imprisonment and enslavement there was in some ways and some cases different from here too. For more info: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Barbary_War
“The Staircase” - NetFlix
Gripping, sensational true life crime series. Let me know your opinion once you are done...guilty/not guilty.
My favorite binge was Lucifer on Netflix. I could barely stop watching it!
I also enjoyed The Marvelous Mrs. Maiel on Prime.
I forgot Kominsky Method on my list. Really good.
Of course if you have Disney+ - Mandalorian is amazing.
I find myself watching old shows and then asking myself why I didn't watch them when they were on, too.

I remember bingeing the entirety of Lost in two weeks many years ago... not sure if Netflix still offers it. They have a tendency to remove programming on a whim... and jack up rates; just got an email that their price of service is going up $2 a month to $17.99.
Two of my favorite Brit tv shows are Killing Eve and Coupling . Coupling is over 10 years old , but Friends fans will love it ! The show lasted four 8 episode seasons , but died when the actor who plays Jeff left after season 3 . The "sock gap" and "porn buddies" are 2 great Jeffisms . Killing Eve will be back for season 4 on BBC /AMC and it's a cross between a 1960s spy series and a comedy . There is really nothing else like it and Villanelle/Oxsana is the most likable killer since Dexter . BTW Showtime is bringing back Dexter for a limited 10 episode season in fall 2021 . I see foul mouthed sister Deb coming back as his Harry Morgan like ghost conscience .

If you like Canadian comedy, look no further. The show is a classic!

We have binged (or are currently bingeing) quite a few on this list. There are also several I haven't even heard of. Will have to look into some of them.
We are also currently bingeing Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Angel, in their appropriate combined chronological order. We've re-watched Buffy a couple times, so I knew how well it holds up. Angel, however, is not as good as I remembered it to be.
Buffy is on my Hulu list too. I've watched the series more than once. Such a fun show
Monty
Since you brought up Buffy, which I thought was fabulous, that reminded me of a some others series that aren't on the long list:
Adventures of Brisco County Jr.
Ash vs. Evil Dead
Battlestar Galactica
Burn Notice
Charmed
Dark Angel
Hercules: The Legendary Journeys
Highway to Heaven
In Living Color
Relic Hunter
The "X" Files
Xena: Warrior Princess
Then we could go back to the 60's-70's, there's lots more than I even list below, depending on taste...
Bewitched
Get Smart
Gunsmoke
Hawaii 5-0
Hogan's Heroes
The Honeymooners
Ironsides
It Takes a Thief
Kung Fu
Little House on The Prarie
The Magician
Maverick
Mission Impossible
Outer Limits
Rockford Files
Twilight Zone
The Waltons
Here's a few more listed under their creating networks ;
HBO
Deadwood and The Deadwood movie
Rome - excellent 2 seasons before cancellation , funny and violent . Set the table for GoT
Boardwalk Empire
Sopranos
John Adams -excellent miniseries
Game of Thrones
Showtime
Dexter
Ray Donovan
Homeland
Shameless
Cinemax
Banshee
Starz
Black Sails
American Gods
FX
Sons of Anarchy
Justified
AMC
Preacher - the graphic novel series comes to life for 4 seasons .
Amazon Prime
The Boys - ultra-violent hero series where the corporate controlled heroes are often the bad ones
Fleabag - Emmy winning British comedy
Jack Ryan - season one was very good , season two was kind of meh
Tales From the Loop - scifi anthology series
Phillip K. Dick's Electric Dreams - more scifi anthology this time from the famed titular writer
CBS All Access (The Star Trek Channel)
Picard - very good with cameos from TNG and Voyager
Star Trek Discovery - a good 2 seasons especially S2 which brings back Captain Pike and a young Spock who are getting their own series ST series . S3 playing now
Star Trek Short Treks - 20 minute or so tales including Harry Mudd, tribbles ,and Spock's first day on the Enterprise . All of these Trek series are or will be available at the Warren County library on dvd
Adult Animated series ;
Netflix
Love Death and Robots - adult themed 2019 scifi 18 episode anthology of about 15 minutes ea. Supposedly a 2nd season is in the works .
DCU/HBO Max
Animated Adventures of Harley Quinn - The F bombs fly in this hilarious adult themed spoof of the Batman universe - might very well be 2 seasons (S3 coming) of the funniest show on tv . Waynebox play party mix !
The Americans is fantastic. One of the best shows on television in recent times, IMO. Only show I've ever watched that just kept getting better and better. Same for Narcos (Netflix). All seasons are great.
Bosch(Amazon) is pretty good.
Counterpart (Amazon). JK Simmons is always great.
Justified - Timothy Olyphant and Walton Goggins are awesome.
The Wire
Mindhunter
For a recent series, Manhunt Deadly Games - Story of Richard Jewell / Eric Rudolph.
Surprisingly good.
Peaky Blinders is excellent. Some great acting talent (Tom Hardy and Adrian Brody have very good performances).
A few more that come to mind ;
Netflix
Dead to Me - 2 women(Christina Applegate,Linda Cardellini)bond over grief in his dark comedy .2 seasons , final and 3rd season coming May 2021
Hap and Leonard - Joe R. Lansdale book series come to life had 2 good seasons and a bad 3rd that got it cancelled .
Locke and Key - Goosebumpy like series about teens based on the graphic novels of Stephen King's son Joe Hill
One season wonders ;
Lights Out - 2011 FX boxing drama starring Mind Hunter's Holt McCallany as former heavyweight champ and aging Bayonne NJ boxer Patrick"Lights" Leary on the comeback trail . Was on Netflix for years hidden among the go and look for it yourself format
The Brink - 2015 HBO series never got a second season . One of Jack Black's best roles as a low-level Pakistani diplomat with Tim Robbins as Sec.of State. But the fighter pilots Z-Pak and Jammer stole the show
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7FfVNMIzy0Y
The Queen's Gambit was great; inspired me to ask Santa for a custom chess set.
if one isn't averse to watching hundreds (if not thousands) of simulated deaths, The Punisher on Netflix was an amazing series that had yet to be mentioned
I just finished Mindhunter and enjoyed it. Borgen and DC Banks are other recent watches that were interesting. Can't wait for the next season of Yellowstone, Ozark, Better Call Saul
I miss some of those Netflix Marvel shows - Daredevil/Punisher/Iron/Fist / Defenders , and also the two seasons of Marco Polo and it's half hour One Hundred Eyes origin story . Hate to sound like a broken record , but Warrior is soon coming to HBO Max after it's last episode on Cinemax this Friday. This show should have been put on HBO to survive more than 2 seasons . Every episode reminds me of going to the Strand back in the day to see Bruce Lee movies , sometimes a double feature for a buck . Here's a sample ;

I'm watching a Dramedy right now. Not sure what the title is though, but it's on a lot of stations...
Cobra Kai 3. For those of us growing up in the 80s during the original, to see a continuation no matter how bad or good is addictive. Only 10 30-minute episodes so that got binge watched in a day...
Got to note the channel folks --- too many, too little time. Ijay, thanks, that NETFLIX show sounds incredible, I have Netflix and didn't have a clue. Get the popcorn, we gonna binge on the 80's!!! Now if they can just get Macchio and KK costars, the Psych crew, and his cousin Vinny together, I can check that one off the bucket list :>)
Schitt's Creek is a terrific show. The first few episodes were a bit shaky but we are now on season 3 and hooked. It's a great salve for the soul in these challenging times.
I wouldn't say it was binge watching but my wife and I got thru season one of "Sneaky Pete" on Amazon. Definitely moving on to season two!!
Jan '21
I highly recommend - Cobra Kai NF - just finished watching season 3 it is simply great
Fargo season 1 was fantastic. Billy Bob Thornton at his snarky best.
Just finished Mandalorian S2. I really enjoyed it.
I just discovered a good show that is still in it's first season run and binged to catch up . It's called Big Sky(10pm Tues ABC)and is about kidnappers/human traffickers in rural Montana and the private eyes hunting them down . Just got done with the CBS All Access(now called Paramount Plus)version of Stephen King's The Stand and it was downright horrible in every way . The 1994 mini-series was/is much much better .
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Fs7nfZghow
Cobra Kai was pretty awesome on Netflix and The Stand on CBS All Access was terrific.
Mandalorian is great if you are a Star Wars fan; have one episode to go, kinda saving it.
Going through Rockford Files now; talk about a 1970's retrospective with a guy stuck in the 1960's rat pack mode.... Didn't like it last time, but new internet TV brings a whole new perspective.
I'm currently watching episode 2 of The Food That Built America.
Well paced- and learned stuff.
I also enjoyed the first 3 episodes of 'Resident Alien' and wish I could watch more without waiting. Made me laugh quite a bit.
Loved that series “The food that built America”
Especially the story about Heinz. The stories about all of these people and their businesses are fascinating. If “the Men who built America “ ( about Carnegie, Rockefeller, Westinghouse etc.) ever comes on again; watch that one too. You’ll find that series just as good.
If you like horses and beautiful scenery not to mention a family oriented show watch Heartland on Netflix. Just finished 13 seasons, 225 shows, it was a nice break from all the stuff going on!
Since Not in NJ Anymore mentioned "a nice break from all the stuff going on," I'll mention the current version of All Creatures Great And Small on PBS Masterpiece. It's nearing the end of its weekly run, but of course you can stream all the episodes that have already aired on the PBS app. Current episodes drop on Sunday nights. Great way to wind down the weekend.
Monty
Watched All Creatures last week was very good loved the British country side brought back many memories of driving on the wrong side of the road with narrow roads with walls on either side when we visited in 2019. We are PBS members and really enjoy the programming they offer.
Another good series on Netflix is Longmire we watched it then found Heartland. Longmire more violence but excellent, not to mention beautiful Wyoming.
I've found "Outlander" to be of interest. I enjoy the historic Scotland background and SciFi aspects of it the most.
With the resurgence of covid I thought this thread needed an update .Yellowjackets on Showtime is about a 1996 NJ girls soccer team turning to cannibalism after their plane crashes in the Canadian wilderness .It's a good watch even if only for the 90s soundtrack as the show flashbacks from present time to the 90s .Yellowstone prequel 1883 is a grim yet scenic portrayal of the Dutton family's trip north from Texas - being a pioneer wasn't a happy existence . Dexter New Blood ended last night and I won't spoil the ending other than to say it was better than the lumberjack cop out .
I read the C.J. Box Joe Pickett book series and the Spectrum Joe Picket 10 episode series was very good - later this year to be seen on Paramount Plus .I took advantage of the Black Friday Hulu deal of 1 year for 99 cents a month and was pleasantly surprised to find the 2011 boxing series Lights Out there . A ton of content for that price and I also downloaded free video apps Hoopla and Kanopy to the Roku. Later this month Billions returns to SHO and Ozark season 4 part 1(ala Breaking Bad final season split into 2 parts)on Netflix . Picard season 2 coming to Paramount Plus in February and what I'm really looking forward to is Primes's Jack Reacher series on Feb 4th - finally a sizable guy as written in the books for that role . Happy watching !

Been recording Yellowjackets for later and watching Dexter, though didn't watch the season-ender, so thanks for not spoiling it.
I've been enjoying "The Repair Shop" a BBC Series where people bring family heirlooms to some of the top craftspeople in the country in order to have them restored. For people that value craftsmanship, such as myself and my Dad too, (once I told him about it), it's definitely engaging! It's been shown on Saturdays in a block on the Discovery Channel. It was filmed on a 40 acre "living museum":
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Repair_Shop
For fans of The Orville that series 3rd season will premiere on Hulu March 10th . It moved as a result of series creator Seth MacFarlane leaving Fox and signing a 200 million dollar 5 year deal with NBC Universal to develop projects for it's many affiliates .
https://tvline.com/2021/12/17/the-orville-season-3-first-photo/
Landscaper - 4 part based on true story - HBO
Ted Lasso - on Apple TV
Seinfeld -all seasons - Netflix
Good news for Justified fans .FX just gave the greenlight for a limited series sequel named Justified : City Primeval .
https://deadline.com/2022/01/fx-greenlights-latest-elmore-leonard-1234912732/
Air Disasters on Smithsonian channel. They are very interesting “ mysteries “ as they solve the causes of the crashes.
May never fly again.
Update time . Ozark is over and many didn't like the ending , but real life rarely goes the way you want .If the ending went the way people wanted Ruth would be compared to Jesse Pinkman and Wendy to Walter White .
Star Trek Strange New Worlds (Paramount+) - Pretty awesome to see Spock making love to T'Pring and Uhura as a prodigy cadet in this prequel to the original series . Each episode will stand on it's own without a continuing story just like the original .
Lincoln Lawyer - I haven't see this Netflix series yet , but I've read 3 of the Mickey Haller Michael Connelly books and am looking forward to it .
Barry(HBO) - Gangsters were never this funny .
The Man Who Fell To Earth (SHO)- A water guzzling alien trying to save his home planet Anthea has the solution for Earth's energy problems .
That Dirty Black Bag - An 8 episode AMC+ series that is based on spaghetti westerns of the 70s .
The Orville - Coming to Hulu June 2nd .,
Undeclared - A Judd Apatow one season wonder about college students in the early aughts that was recommended online as one of the best one season and done series. Every episode is on youtube . Don't know how I missed this one when it was on being a big fan of Freaks and Geeks .
Love Death and Robots Volume 3 May 20th . This Netflix animated sci fi series swung and missed in season 2 after such good entries like Suits , Beyond the Aquila Rift , Helping Hand , and Ice Age in season one . Here's hoping these 9 episodes are better .

Family guy is the best show ever. I just cant stop watching it, can some one please stop me from watching family guy??? Ive been watching famaly guy for 3 days non stop...
The Gilded Age on HBO max. Don’t let the trailer fool you. Give it at least three episodes before making your decision to continue on or not. Great music. Great costumes. Great acting.
The Handmaids Tale, forth season is on Hulu. That’s a great show, as well. It’s actually my favorite show of all time. I’m just bummed that I have to wait for season five and six.
Stranger Things season 4 came back reclaiming it's cred of Spielberg 80s coming of age horror and humor with a vengeance . Barry the dark comedy on HBO is having it's best season ever . And The Boys on Prime season 3 episode one went beyond - I can't believe they did THAT !
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5G9Q3vSyn9o
Anyone else watching "The Boys" on Amazon Prime? i binged Seasons 1 and 2 in the last couple weeks and just finished Episode 1 of the current Season 3, so I'm going to be all caught up and having to wait for new episodes to drop each Friday for the four episodes left this season.
The show is great, but not for the faint of heart... very graphic, both sexually and violently. I haven't seen this many heads explode since the Punisher...
Wait until you see Jamie the hamster . You may also like the adult animated series Invincible on Prime . J.K. Simmons voices the strongest hero named Omni-Man who ironically looks just like the comic book J. Jonah Jameson he plays in the Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies . It's pretty violent for a cartoon .
After the scene with "Termite", Jamie the hamster can't possibly be more disturbing... can he?
What he does and what Kimiko does to a bunch of Russian thugs I'd say episode four is on par with episode one . Now that Antony Starr(Homelander)is in a hit show maybe more people will discover his Cinemax series Banshee on HBO Max . It takes a few episodes to buy in , but once you do you're hooked by a master thief masquerading as the sheriff of a small PA town while plotting future heists - stunningly violent with mid-credit scenes at the end of each episode .
A new series dropped on Prime called The Summer I Turned Pretty . It's a coming of age story about two best friends whose families spend every summer together . It's a quick 7 episode binge watch and has been given the green light for a second season . I like the violent shows , but also the coming of age genre and any good well told story really and this is a good one .
https://www.avclub.com/the-summer-i-turned-pretty-tv-review-prime-video-lola-t-1849060500
I've been enjoying "Gentleman Jack," about a determined, woman in the early 1800's. It's apparently based on the actual life of Anne Lister whose diaries were found in 1982 and were decoded, which detailed her life, business dealings and lesbian relationships.
Also just got sucked into "Irma Vep" about the filming of a remake of a famous vampire movie from the early days of cinema. The Art Deco and Gothic overtones have me enthralled.
Wow! Had Enough is right The Offer is very good . I'm about halfway through and the guy that plays Brando is spot on . For anyone with Paramount+ the Joe Pickett series about a Wyoming game warden is also on that streamer now. Based on the book series by C.J. Box it's a good story .
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kxNGlkVZFAU
https://spectrumoriginals.com/joe-pickett
Started watching The Offer on Mother's Day weekend... I think there were 3 or 4 episodes available at that time... then I forgot about it.
I much prefer shows that dump all episodes at once rather than waiting for the weekly release. At least now all 10 episodes are available so I can binge the last six or seven.
I prefer that way too .It's frustrating to wait for the next episode of The Boys or Star Trek Strange New Worlds .Maybe not Trek so much since each episode stands on it's own and is not part of a continuing story . And don't get me started on the split season format of Better Call Saul , Stranger Things , Ozark etc.
All those things smack of well you are buying this streaming service , but think twice about canceling after you have seen your favorite show . I got Amazon Prime for the free shipping so I have no idea why they do this . Anyway a funny scene from The Offer that actually happened when director Coppola invited the cast for dinner before filming and they all went into their movie counterparts ;
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PILlV7zg5QA
Patience is a virtue Ian. Can’t you just wait and then watch them all? Or must they wait and then dump them all? A conundrum for sure.
Just started The Old Man, Jeff Bridges, FX, one episode a week….Guess Ian will wait ;-). Kinda amalgamation of bunch of recent retired spy thingees. First episode, old man is peeing every few hours. I can relate. Episode took twice as long since I had to break on every tinkle. :-). Very good though. It’s got dogs as heroes.
The Old Man is also on Hulu so ianimal can wait and binge watch that series . Hulu is the best 99 cent a month for a year deal I got last Black Friday .The absolute best deal was a 50 inch plasma tv I got in 07 for the 700 dollar price of a 42 inch(1400 dollars was the 50 inch price)at PC Richards - but that is a whole story in itself .
Once again the 2011 one season boxing series Lights Out is on Hulu . An ex-heavyweight NJ based boxer 5 years after losing his title against Richard "Death Row" Reynolds in a controversial decision and is broke breaking the arm of a debtor dentist as a loan shark enforcer and also fighting an ex-NFL tackle in a barroom fight for money in the first episode , He fights a cage match in a warehouse to settle his brothers's gambling debts in ep 4 . This show is excellent watch it !
I recorded the first two episodes of The Old Man and started watching that series. But I am so frustrated because so many scenes are filmed in almost total darkness and I have no idea what the devil is happening. Why do so many shows, and movies, do this? I've had this complaint for many years. So many times I've struggled to try to see what is going on. I realize that not everything happens in bright daylight, but it just seems like there are so many times pivotal action is virtually invisible.
LD, Game of Thrones used to drive me nuts with that...
Jeff Bridges will always be The Dude to me... I have no desire to see him as The Old Man, lol.
Only Murders in the Building Season 2 is starting 6/28. Binge Season 1 now on Hulu.
97XBAM, is that the guy from "Mindhunter"? Loved that show... hope there's a Season 3 in the works.
At least Bridge’s is breaking from his grumbly Western persona that was stereotyping him. Now he’s the zen-old-dude-with-dangerous-dobbies. It’s pretty good, but being older, I’m biased. But feeling better after this and Nadal winning the French!
ianimal - Yep that's Holt McCallany from Mindhunter which Netflix cancelled after 2 seasons because they said it cost too much . He plays NJ boxer Patrick"Lights" Leary , Pablo Schreiber plays his brother , Stacey Keach his father/trainer , and the late great Reg E. Cathey as a Don King like boxing promoter . I look at it like a 13 episode miniseries .
I'm watching Legends now, 2014-2015 with Sean Bean and Morris Chestnut, excellent.
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2402137
I just hope it has an actual ending. I'm tired of series that get cancelled without an ending like Mindhunter which I posted near the top of the thread.
Aquarius was quite good but was supposed to be 5 seasons but lasted only 2.
I know what you mean CBGB about a series being canceled without an ending . The NBC series Las Vegas and Santa Clarita Diet on Netflix come to mind , But what can be almost as bad is a series with a rushed cobbled together ending . This happened twice on 2 of my favorite shows 2008's Life on Mars and 2007's Life starring Billions/Homeland actor Damian Lewis .
The two seasons of Life are available free to stream on the Roku channel , but has the dvd soundtrack of studio music because NBCheap wouldn't buy the rights to the original artists music which was a huge part of the show and this show was the Miami Vice version music wise of the aughts .Tunefind has that music and I've found that site an excellent resource to find that song from a movie or tv show to buy on amazon and put into the ever evolving music library.

Funny you should mention Miami Vice's music. That was composed by Jan Hammer, keyboardist/synth for the Mahavishnu Orchestra for a number of years before he did the music for the series. That was some far out head music for the 70's!
Miami Vice was when stereo tv became the big thing in the 80s not the 70s . Remember Crime Story with Dennis Farina ? It was the NBC nostalgic counterpart to Miami Vice .Life had an eclectic soundtrack in it's original run that the network refused to pay for the music rights in any subsequent release .Miami Vice had several original artists from the Stones to Cyndi Lauper in it's day along with the Jan Hammer synth garbage .

"Jan Hammer synth garbage", "not the 70s"? I think you misread or I should have been more specific. I meant that his work with John McLaughlin & the Mahavishnu Orchestra was some far out music, even for the 70's. His theme music for Miami Vice fits the vibe of the series, but I do agree that it was the choice of popular contemporary artists that really helped set the mood of the week to week episodes.
Crime Story's soundtrack has an iconic soundtrack reflecting the era it's set in. In each case, it's the music that's an integral part of setting its mood
Here's the next big thing for me... only about a month away now. August 5th on Netflix...

Wait until you see the latest episode of The Boys . It has a long paragraph warning/disclaimer in the beginning and is titled Herogasm . Best episode yet !
I have 3 free months of Apple tv and watched Ted Lasso. I love comedy. But it has to be really, really good to make me laugh. Ted Lasso is great comedy! Watch if you can.
Yuck ! Jason Suk Fake Us on Crapple TV on some lame British sitcom . Sorry , but I will take Joe Pickett on Paramount+ for 100 Alex in the category of family friendly shows that don't bore me to death !
Joe Pickett is hardly "family-friendly" unless your family is out of a Rob Zombie movie, lol
Was over my families house for the 4th and watched the first episode of 'The offer'
It was good enough that I signed up for Paramount+ to watch it at home.
We are currently 4-5 episodes in and it is EXCELLENT.
Very very rare to get any show this well done.
If you have Paramount+ Evil is lots of fun. On Hulu Only murders in the building is terrific if you like comedies
97XBAM I've seen a bunch of the series you mention. Most are good, but definitely most are not family friendly :) Not clear if you watched Lasso, so not sure if you were giving anyone a review or not. Oi, f you lol! It's funny! And good moral lessons for the kiddies!
Definitely Only Murders in the Building on Hulu. Season 2 just started a couple weeks ago.
I just watched season one of the HBO series Hacks on library dvd and couldn't believe how funny it was ! I'm most likely dropping Netflix for the 9.99 version of HBO Max(same price and word is NF will be going to commercials too)when the GoT prequel series House of the Dragon starts .Then I'll watch season two of Hacks and season four of Titans and eventually season three of Warrior - not to mention season three of the adult animated Adventures of Harley Quinn , hands down the funniest show on tv , but for adults only .

Really want to like The Old Man, but so much explaining then ling glares, either on phone or across rooms. Not quitting yet. Anybody else besides Dove watching?
Agree the Old Man is boring .Even the cause he was fighting for when young was pointless as we know Afghanistan is a hopeless pit of religious zealots and crooked warlords .
The Old Man is probably my favorite thing we're watching right at the moment. I'm not bored with it at all.
Another vote for “The Shrink Next Door”. “ The Dropout” on Hulu. Both based on true stories and very interesting.
Checked out Shrink Next Door on Crapple TV . Will Ferrell and Paul Rudd playing two prissy Jews ? I'm surprised that is even allowed in woke Hollyweird where Tom Hanks says he couldn't play his Philadelphia gay character today . Different strokes for different folks or whatever .
Crapple got the rights for the NFL Sunday Ticket starting in 2024 . It will probably cost double since they are a maximum ripoff company . Good thing I'm a Cowboy fan and only have to pirate 2 or 3 non- televised games on the internet each year .
I guess you mean "maximum ripoff company" in the sense that they currently offer one of the least expensive streaming services available?
Anybody paying anything to the Apple company is overpaying -iphone/ipad/streaming etc. Their content stinks and a show about two people playing Jewish stereotypes kvetching like an old Wood Allen movie does nothing to enhance their overrated brand .That's it I've had enough of this dead site - It's wake up time !
ooh someone sounds kind of pissy today -- unfortunate since Ted Lasso, and an extraordinary film about Macbeth are available there -
The binge worthy Stallone series Tulsa King has completed it's 9 episode season one run and has been green lit for season two . Watch it on Paramount Plus or wait for the(library)dvd since Paramount still does that . My library has The Offer dvd , but I bought it for 20 bucks on amazon since it is awesome ! The Yellowstone prequel 1923 is hands down way better than 1883 , but it's on mid-season hiatus returning on Feb 5th- be there or be there later on library dvd .

97XBAM,
I was going to mention that series when this thread just popped up. LOVED Tulsa King on Paramount Plus. Awesome series. I zipped right through.
Jan '23
Stallone can still kick butt at 76 or at least look believable pretending to . Did you catch the Silicon Valley reference when Bodhi (Gilfoyle on SV) said he's good at hacking because he was part of an internet startup for 5 years ? Check out the Stallone movie Samaritan on Prime where he throws people around like rag dolls as an aging super .
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9FKnTxSC16E
97XBAM,
I'm on the second time around rewatching it. He is so much fun in this role. Oh, poor Bodhi...lol. He is/was so mellow. Bodhi, Mitch, Tyson...all good. I love Stallone in this role. He's perfect. I also love catching at least two people who've been on the Sopranos in it: Armand - Benny, and Joanne his sister was Gloria on Sopranos.
Jan '23
Doogie Howser's best friend/neighbor Vinnie was played by Max Casella(Armand) way back when . He hardly looks anything like the skinny nerdy guy he was in those days .
We just binge watched the first 5 episodes of Poker Face on Peacock. It is FANTASTIC! they are releasing new episodes every Thursday. 10 episodes total.
We just finished up three really good shows that I don't think have been mentioned here:
Slow Horses (AppleTV+)
Nobody does spy mysteries quite like the Brits. Fun story, and Gary Oldman is GREAT as the slob overseeing his teams of misfits. You can almost smell his feet when he kicks off his wingtips.
Black Bird (also AppleTV+)
Outstanding performances all around in this dramatization of a true story about a prison inmate who's offered clemency if he can gather enough incriminating evidence against one of his fellow inmates to prevent him from getting early release. Chilling.
Station Eleven (HBOMax)
I read this book a few years ago and wondered how they'd incorporate all the different timeframes and storylines into a coherent filmed adaptation. The answer is, beautifully. Funny, sad, suspenseful, hopeful; overall one of the most *human* series in recent memory.
Love Slow Horses, but I watched about 5 episodes of Station Eleven and got bored with it, so I never finished.
Heard good things about Wednesday on Netflix- and I am NOT one to watch weird / horror stuff....but the amount of chatter made me tell the wife- lets watch an episode and see.
Well- we are on something like ep 7 now...and my only complaint- other than 'filler' characters that don't do much...is the main husband of the family- completely WRONG casting and every time he shows up it pisses me off.
Fortunately he isn't around much. The main character- aptly named Wednesday - is excellent. I don't know how she keeps a straight face.
The 'younger' flashback version of her dad was MUCH more in line with the character played.
The older version they show is the exact opposite- instead of taller, slimmer, and debonair- they show a shorter, MUCH fatter, and complete clown who talks AND sounds like Tracy Morgan.
...which is funny because I like Tracy- in the rolls he has done- but I would NEVER cast him as the same roll. IMDB lists him as 5.5.5 - uggh.. seriously? Trying hard? Orig guy was 5'11 and I'm NOT a person to care about someone's height..but when you represent a taller slimmer character and cast a MUCH shorter, MUCH rounder actor- well he better be able to pull off the acting...and alas- this guy comes across as a clown, a joke and ruins every scene he is in.
That being said- no worry- the lead- Wednesday- fantastic- and reading up on in, no surprise- "Not only did Jenna Ortega learn to play the cello, she took fencing, archery, canoeing, German, and boxing lessons to prep for her role."
Josh, Luis Guzman is actually way more reminiscent of the original comic strip character than either John Astin or Raul Julia. He was short and dumpy, not tall and debonair.
Ianimal- thank you for teaching me- every once in a while it is enlightening while humbling to remember what we 'know'- as a remembrance is easily not the full information.
My apologies to Luis Guzman. I expected John Astin demeanor.
He fits a cartoon well. :P
BTW- did anyone notice Christina Ricci is in this series? I wouldn't have known it was her if I didn't read it....
Ian (and Josh)
I see Ian already answered the question of why they went with Luis Guzman, who I love in most roles he's in, though just don't feel it in this series. I did realize that he fits the original cartoon character better, but since most people know "Gomez Addams" as John Astin, or one of the other actors that played him, I'd have thought they'd have gotten someone closer to that idea.
The other choice I had an issue with was Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams. Not sure who I'd have selected if I was casting the show, but she just didn't seem to fit either. Perhaps Angie Harmon...
That said, other than those two, I loved the "Wednesday" TV series. Inventive ideas, including integrating the Addams Family finger snaps in part of the plot. Jenna Ortega was the perfect choice in my opinion, she was so deadpan in her delivery, etc., just so, "Wednesday."
Christina Ricci also plays the adult version of Misty Quigley in Showtime's Yellowjackets . Season two begins March 26th . Season one is available on library dvd right now .
My wife and I thought Wednesday was absolutely delightful. I was a huge fan of the TV series when I was a kid, and of the cartoons later in life. I also thought the Raul Julia / Anjelica Huston movies in the '90s were pretty much perfect, so I was VERY skeptical that that particular lightening could be bottled yet again. I could not have been more wrong.
Good news everyone ! Star Trek Strange New Worlds season one and Joe Pickett season one is being offered free on youtube by Paramount .It seems they're both included with Amazon Prime as well . If you don't have Prime it's easy to download the free youtube app to your streaming device - just use the search function and type in youtube then get the app . Enjoy !

I actually found Ahnold's FUBAR on Netflix to be immensely entertaining. 8 episodes, all dropped at the same time.
I've been slowly working my way through FUBAR as well , I usually watch if the Mets are losing badly or off that day . It's the number one show on Netflix already .The Paramount promotion is only temporary to lobby for new subscribers with Joe Pickett season 2 premiering on Sunday and ST Strange New Worlds S2 on the 15th .Justified City Primeval drops on July 18th .

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N6KEgWSFfaE
I highly recommend Star Trek Strange New Worlds for any Trek fan who hasn't seen it. It's a bit disconcerting that the Enterprise in this is so much fancier and bigger than the original, when ostensibly this show is a prequel. But the writing and acting for the most part ranges from really good to great, especially Anson Mount as Captain Pike. Lotsa fun.
so sad - Ted Lasso and Succession are gone - now what? not interested in any violence...
Netflix? Really?
Mrs. Davis was silly fun.
Can’t believe Blacklist is ending, still holding up and giving no idea where it’s going.
Disney has a couple of Asian things, one series, one movie, both cute in that Disney way.
They missed the target when casting young James Kirk . Every time I see the skinny guy they cast in that role I think of the dopey father Phil Dunphy from Modern Family . For fans of The Next Generation Picard season 3 finally gives that series the proper ending they never got with the awful 2002 Nemesis movie .
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JW_P3SRrExw
The animated Gremlins prequel (Secrets of the Mogwai) on MAX is pretty good, too. It's only two episodes per week though.... Eps 5 and 6 should drop on Thursday. 10 episodes in all.
Anyone watch Jury Duty on Freevee? Very funny and incredible in that it’s kind of an experiment with regard to the format. Also a great lesson in humanity.
Definitely enjoyed FUBAR. Binge-watched it over 3 nights. It's "True Lies", with a twist.
Jeeves and Wooster - Wodehouse - an oldie but a goodie - Hugh Laurie playing the opposite of the House character
Air Disasters - the rules that make air travel safe today were written because of yesterday's disasters - early seasons are campier than Unsolved Mysteries
Good Omens - perhaps too irreverent for some, but I laughed my butte off
If you include YouTube creators:
Simon Whistler's various channels - many over the top silly conspiracies debunked, some bizarre stuff, some history, some awful stuff - pick what you like
Fascinating Horror - it is amazing how many disasters should have been avoided via the application of a little common sense - What were they thinking? - love the narrator's accent, but some true events are too horrible to watch
how could I leave out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BGfW_mHRCzk&t=14s
The first three episodes of the 3rd and final season of the Bruce Lee inspired martial arts western Warrior dropped on HBO Max June 29th . Glad it got a last season to wrap things up .

I've had the "free" option of Peacock for several years. Of course, that meant I had to watch ads frequently. But yesterday I found out there is no more "free" for Peacock. So that's another streaming platform that has been removed from my devices. I was watching some old things, like "Psyche" and "Parks and Recreation". Oh well.
Xfinity sent out an email offering Peacock for 2.99 a month for 12 months for those who want to keep it .Of course after 12 months it goes to the full rate . I had Hulu at 99 cents a month for 12 months on a Black Friday deal in 2021 .
It depends on what kind of service you have with Xfinity . The table is in the link below .

The Bear on Hulu is absolutely one of the best shows that I have ever seen!! There’s 2 seasons out now..
Agreed on The Bear. I never thought I'd say such a thing, but I think The Bear is as good as The Wire. I realize it's apples and oranges in terms of tone, and the two shows address entirely different subject matter. But just strictly in terms of the quality of writing, acting, and overall execution, it's right up there. Incredibly good.
Oh, y'all wrote "The Bear". I thought you meant "Beartown" at first, the excellent TV Swedish series. That series is rated at 14+, but definitely for later teens to adults only, unless they can handle the more adult themes in there, that befall a teen in high school.
It's a commentary on sexual harassment, assault, and the community that turns on the victim, while defending the high school sports star who was the offender.
The Bear is a good look at how hard it is to run a successful restaurant with a great soundtrack . But Jeremy Allen White (Carmy) is basically playing the same screw up he played on Shameless .
Justified City Primeval first 2 episodes tomorrow July 18th on FX at 10 and 11:15 respectively . For fans of the Prime coming of age drama The Summer I Turned Pretty the first 3 episodes of season 2 are available now with each new one dropping on Friday .
Thanks to your guys recommend of the bear- my wife and I are a few episodes into the 2nd season now.
Personally I thought the first season was better. There was a distinct change in framing & presentation in these later episodes. It lost a bit of it's raw edge- and instead doing 'fancy' with it's openings, music, 'emotional' scenes....
"But Jeremy Allen White (Carmy) is basically playing the same screw up he played on Shameless"
Most actors don't act. There are very few true actors...while lots of TV & movie 'stars'.
Meaning- very difficult for a person to shift themselves from what they are.
Most people we like, 'actors' we like- are the same in most of their roles. They get hired because people like them- and they fit well enough in whatever box they are getting placed in to- not because they are changing shape / behavior to any other box than what they already are.
Josh I thought the same about season 2 until the individual episodes focusing on Tina , Marcus , and Richie which IMO made season 2 . And the one hour episode of the flashback to a Berzatto family Christmas dinner was Emmy worthy ! Jamie Lee Curtis was outstanding as the manic mama Berzatto and any show with Bob Odenkirk guest starring is worth watching !
I just wanted to convey the best is yet to come .The Ever restaurant that Richie interns at in Chicago is real , but it's hard to believe that they function at such a level of precise perfection .
https://www.theringer.com/tv/2023/7/5/23783009/the-bear-season-2-episode-7-forks-richie-stages-ever-restaurant
I'm kind of enthralled with the restaurant industry in general, so I realize my opinion is biased, but The Bear is absolutely riveting to me. I love everything about it. I don't think I've been this wrapped up in a TV show since The Wire.
Speaking of The Bear, why the heck is it up for comedy series Emmys? I haven't laughed once. Good show, but says drama all over to me. I laugh at anything and I've been deadpan throughout it. Good series, just not funny.
Jul '23
I agree about the comedy element (or rather, the lack thereof). In fact my wife and I avoided it during the first season because JustWatch, the app I use to track shows & movies we watch, listed it as a comedy. It took some pretty strong convincing from a trusted friend to get us to watch it, because we generally are not fans of comedies. I'm REALLY glad we buckled. There are occasional funny lines, but not even enough to warrant calling it a "dramedy," much less a comedy.
EDITED TO ADD:
Somewhere online I read a post from someone speculating that maybe it gets lumped in with comedies because the episodes run closer to a half hour (like most comedies), rather than an hour (like most dramas). That seems like fair speculation to me.
The Faks are funny , but it is more of a dramedy . Matty Matheson who plays Neil Fak is actually a famous Canadian chef . Bob Odenkirk had nothing but praise for the episode he was in , says it was his best acting experience since Better Call Saul .
https://screenrant.com/bear-season-2-bob-odenkirk-experience-filming-response/
If you have Netflix the dramedy show Beef is very bingable, especially with 30 minute episodes. I haven’t finished it but I’m very intrigued.
"Berzatto family Christmas dinner "
Just watched that one last night.... wow what a chaotic stress that was.
It had to be a difficult one to film and edit- and was even more difficult to watch.
I didn't enjoy it.
I don't like watching people yell at each other- I've had enough of that in real life.
I much prefer to watch happy things when I can.
It elicited an emotional response from the viewers so it did it's job .The actors enjoyed making it and families do have holiday dinners like that . I think back to a Christmas dinner over 40 years ago absolutely ruined by a sister and her bratty kids when I had to leave to avoid punching the snot out of her for bringing her garbage drama into the house and ruining the holiday for my mom .
For those not bothered by that kind of intensity in a series I recommend the dark comedy Barry which is full of such moments especially the last episode of season 3 that has to be the most intense half hour of tv ever made . I always tell people who want to know if that show if their cup of tea to watch the last episode of season one which is chock full of the comedy/violence/dark twists the show does better than anything else .
This is not actually about a TV show to Binge. This is about Hulu and the show "Only Murders in the Building". I watched the first two episodes of the third season, but when I tried to watch the third episode, it wouldn't come on. After Googling it, I discovered that I have to sign up for Disney Plus, which now includes some Hulu shows. I have the free Hulu, which means I have to watch commercials. I guess "Only Murders" must have become popular enough that Disney decided we need to pay more in order to see it. I had no problem watching the first two seasons. But Disney must need more of my money. Blah! Forget that.
This is just like the Yankees selling games to Amazon Prime and Apple TV. Greed.
"Who is Erin Carter" was a 6 episode bit of crazy fun!
I heard that "Wednesday" will also be coming back for another season.
@Lonesome Dove:
I think you're mistaken about needing Disney in order to watch Only Murders. I just logged in to Hulu on my work computer, and all the episodes that have been released are available to me. I have the no-ads tier of Hulu, but as far as I can determine online, they should be available for you as well, even on the ad-supported version. Even Hulu's own website says you can watch all of Hulu's content with the ad-supported tier. I believe you have just happened to run into a glitch.
Hulu and Disney *are* doing a merger, but I can't find any information to indicate that a Disney subscription is required to watch Hulu content.
I signed up for a special 4-month deal on Starz so my wife and I could catch up to current on Outlander. I went looking around for anything else we might want to see while we have the deal, and came across Black Sails. I'd never heard of it, and it's several years old, but I can't recommend it highly enough. The premise is that it's a prequel to Robert Louis Stevenson's novel Treasure Island, but it also weaves in a lot of real historical figures and true historical events. I don't have any particular interest in pirates, and I'm amazed how much my wife and I enjoyed this show.
Fair warning: Unlike Treasure Island itself, Black Sails is absolutely NOT a show for the kiddies. It's themes are very adult (politics, power, corruption, etc.), it includes quite a bit of nudity (some gratuitous and some not), and the (frequent) violence is often very graphic.
Black Sails was a unique show right down to composer Bear McCreary's use of the hurdy gurdy in the opening theme . For anyone without Starz the Warren County library has all 4 seasons on dvd . I believe the very first episode is still on Prime and the Roku channel as a free sample .
