Tree Removal?
I searched the forum, most recent post I found was from 2014, so I figured a new thread would be helpful.
Looking to have a couple of trees removed, we haven't had this done for years, so looking for current recommendations?
Advanced Tree Care 908-637-8476. Used them several times, excellent work.
Responsive, unlike some other local companies.
I highly recommend Josh from JFG Tree Services. I had him recently take down an 80 foot oak as well as a few other smaller trees. He was excellent. I also recommended him to two friends who were equally as happy with his work. Also, you will be very hard pressed to find anyone who can beat his very fair prices. Remember the guys with all that shiny equipment with fancy graphics and all the bells and whistles cost YOU more money! Josh is a longtime professional and gets it done well.
His ad is here on HL in the classifieds.

We have always used Precision Tree and Landscaping (Mike Virgil). 201-709-5583. He is local (Allamuchy). Always fair and responsive.
A second here for "Precision". Mike and his son are thorough and fair. I brought them in after a bad experience with JFG and they did a great job.
Best of luck.
I too used Mike from Precision for some high, large limb removal prior to using JFG. He is a vey nice, knowledgeable guy. I went with Josh for the next stage as the same work ended up about $1500 less than Precision's quote. While it is not all about price my situation was not extradentary in scope of work. Both guys are certified arborists, fully insured etc.
I used Precision several times in the past with no complaints.
More recently I used Double Tree.
Their work was good and their quote was best.

Thanks everyone!
I have used Advanced and JFG before, but it was awhile ago. I thought I'd ask for current/recent experiences.
Goucher tree service out of Belvidere. Always shows up. Very fast tree cutting and excellent clean up. Prices are great. Super nice crew.
Advanced Tree was excellent when they removed a VERY large tree from our property.
I will be using this thread, as Im also looking for someone to take out trees that are impossible for us to cut without hitting the house or propane tank. I will note both my grandfather and myself have called Advance at different times for our respective homes and neither of us got a call back after being told we would be contacted to set up an inspection of the situation. Take that for what you will.
I had some tree work done last year. Just removing some large branches and small trees. I was shocked at the price difference from the different guys. I ended up paying almost half of the first quote! I recommend getting at least a few quotes!
I go along with Calico’s recommendation of Bill Suyker. He took down about 20 huge poplars for me. Did a great job.
How about Johnny's Tree Service in Flanders, has anyone used them? We got three quotes for some tree work we need done and Johnny's Tree Service gave us the best quote. Any feedback about them would be appreciated.
Pamela.
We have used Advanced for several projects but used Johnny's most recently (last month).
Both companies did very good work and I would not hesitate to use either of them.

Has anyone used 24/7 Tree Service? I think they’re out of Long Valley. They got great reviews on NextDoor. Their quote was much lower than those listed above. I’m having dead ash tress removed.
Greetings, I have used a couple of these tree service companies before. Last year this time or so, I noted several ash trees that were on their way out. I called about five of the above mentioned people, three responded and came by for estimates. Their timelines were several weeks out to do the work. A friend recommended Beaver Tree Service, beaverts@gmail.com, John or Andres, I believe out of Netcong. They were by within 2 days with an estimate 60% below the lowest one I had received. A week later the work progressed with a boom truck and a crew of 8. Excellent job, clean up, and I will
ust them in the future when the rest of my ashh trees go down.
We had Precision do ours last year. Very happy with it. Though we just had them do a drop, and we did all the cut and clean up.
As a follow up -
I requested liability insurance declaration from 24/7 Tree Service over a week ago and never received a response. Not sure what’s going on there, but we didn’t use them.
We ended up using High Class Tree Service (Randolph). They were 1/3 less than most of the other companies mentioned above. They showed up yesterday with 4 guys and a crane and knocked out the job by the end of the day. A total of 5 trees were removed. They did a great job. Their cleanup was meticulous and they placed the firewood where I requested. Highly recommended!
Pricing would be interesting to note, if anybody feels it would be ok to post what they paid? I have some trees that need to come down, too, but not a lot of money. Are we talking thousands? Or hundreds??
mattnyd - You don't mention how many trees just as a start. An old oak isn't going to be the same work as a small birch. How close together they are to get their equipment in, whether you want the stump ground, if you want it cut in pieces for wood or chopped up, how many people, what pieces of equipment, etc. That all goes into the cost of one single job. You need someone to come and give an estimate. Based on all of those factors it could be either hundreds or thousands. Someone has to come and look at it.
Precision Tree & Landscape did a wonderful job on removing two trees today. Mike kept us informed when he was coming, showed up when he said he would, left us some wood so that we could process for firewood (just like we asked of him). It was a very pleasant experience and I would highly recommend using them.
I used Bill Suyker last year. I initially wanted 4-5 big trees taken down and, believe it or not, Bill talked me out of it. He said they were all healthy and he didn’t foresee any coming down onto the house anytime soon. Bill said if I really wanted them gone he’d do it but then the other nearby trees would take extra wind force these trees were currently blocking and taking them out could cause others to fall. Long story short, he trimmed a few trees and all has been well. I don’t know many tree guys that would talk you out of spending thousands of dollars but I appreciated it.
