JCP&L Costs going up June 1, 2025
Just received an upsetting email from First Energy stating rates will "sharply increase on June 1."
"The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU) recently announced the results of the auction used to set the BGS price for all electric distribution companies in New Jersey. Based on the results of this BGS auction, a JCP&L customer using 777 kWh/month can expect to see their total bill increase by 19.9% beginning June 1."
They recommend shopping around for other suppliers licensed by the BPU.
This is a substantial increase and will be really hard for those of us on a budget. Can anyone speak to their experience using a third-party supplier? How does this work? Can you really save that much more? Thanks in advance!
Good question. I was also wondering how it would work using a 3rd party with the new JCP and L smart meters??
I received the same notice. I have always stuck with JCPL/First Energy as it has been fair and stable.. until now it seems. I have heard some say switching was great.. others good for months then big increase.. so I'm not sure what to do also...
I previously looked into switching suppliers, and most suppliers were above the JCP&L rate. Those that weren't were only modestly less, for a period of 6-12 months before the price would reset (presumably to a higher one).
Worth investigating again now though...
Route 46, My daughter has a friend who switched and after 1 year the rate significantly increased. Her friend went back to JCP&L. I didn't hear if she had any difficulty switching back. That being said, I never received any email from JCP&L. When did they arrive?
As Indy and Liberty gone out again on a sky blue windless day, one can hope jcpl will buy some better clothespins to hold this pos grid together.
