Good Places for View of Sunrise or Sunset Near Us?
Any suggestions? I would like to get a nice photograph of the sun rising or setting somewhere around us... any ideas? Within about an hour or so of our lovely town.
I agree on Mountain Lake....If your feeling really adventurous climb to high rock which overlooks the lake
Here are some sun set pictures that were taking at the lake

I usually have good luck at the Field of Dreams in Independence.
I have some other spots that I'm waiting for the right weather to get something magical.
Chris that is spectacular!!! Where exactly were you to get that shot??? Where/what is Field of Dreams? I don't have kids - is this a place for their sports activities?
Looks like I'll also have to check out Mountain Lake!
It's huge park with sports fields and walking paths behind the Central School in Independence. Lot's of open landscape and interesting tree lines.
We should have an HL photo walk up there. Many people stop me as it is asking what I'm doing. :) One guy actually saw me there a few times and gave me some other places to take pictures.
Well, we have a place and I guess a time (sunset), now we just need a day. What works for you two?
Rebecka
go up 46 east to top of hill then come back down 46 west till you over look the town and wait for sundown

Do your walk on a Thursday before the firehouse is doing their wings/pierogie night. Then stop in afterward.
GC:
Wing night is 5-8 and golden hour for the field is ~7:15-8:15 depending on clouds. So, someone could do wings then come over for the sunset.
Martha:
Can we come to your front porch?
Chris - Summer is here too fast, I'm not adjusted yet. I'm still back in spring time... (and by the way you need to make friends with someone up Jenny Jump way for your picture - right about where Sugar was being fostered must make quite a picture)
If you plan on going this Thursday, forget about the wings cause you won't get none.
Independence Firehouse Wing Nite, 1 st. Thursday of the month.
Next wing nite - 7 July 2011
THE MAN: Thanks for the reminder. I'm going to post for 7/7. I'm really looking forward to one of their steak sandwiches.
go to Sunrise Mountain... Its located in Stokes State forest..just off of Rt 206 by Culvers Lake...you can drive up to the top...and the views are great...thats a great place...the second highest point in New Jersey.
There is a 9-11 lookout about 45 mins east of hackettstown ill ask my friend what town amazing sunsets and beautiful to be seeing such a beautiful thing while paying respects to the people who lost their lives on 9-11
Shoebie - I used to live in Montclair. I think you might be referring to the 9/11 memorial at Eagle Rock Reservation. I've been there many times, and it is indeed a beautiful view.\
Chris - Sunday?
http://www.essex-countynj.org/p/index.php?section=parks/sites/er&ImgLoc=images/er (From New Jersey: Take Route 280 West to Exit 8/Prospect Avenue. Turn right onto Eagle Rock Avenue. Turn left into the Reservation. Memorial is straight ahead.)
Rebecka yes!! :) Eagle Rock is the name what a beautiful place
shoebie - I think you meant Route 280 east. :)
Growing up, Eagle Rock was best known as place for underage drinking and car parking. ;-)
Actually Shoebie from here its 80East to 280 East................
It was a popular place when I was in college also., Didnt grow up there just went too college near there......
Sunday sounds good. We can meet at 7:15 near the pavilion behind the central school. That should give us an hour+ to get some good shots.
Here's an exact location (green arrow)

There use to be an old style half sphere climbing jungle gym right there, but they replaced it with a modern playground.
jennymc, great shot of tonight's beautiful sunset! I took a couple, but they didn't come out so well! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks to everyone for these beautiful sunset/sunrise photos -- just beautiful!
In Hackettstown. Go up Allan rd and you will see Donaldson's produce market. Look out into the field and last night i saw an amazing sunset.
Hi Hopeful in H-town, Thanks for the kind words, only I took this photo in November 2007 -
I thought is came out great for a small digital camera - the colors in the sky were so beautiful.
That is truly beautiful, Rebecka (and the rest of you too - these photos are outstanding!)
Rebecka, yours reminds me of that old commercial (I can't remember for what), but it was a father and son sitting on the side of a hill watching the sun set. In a few moments the sun is gone and the son says in awe "Daddy, do it again". I loved that and your pic reminds me of the wonder of a child and their faith in their Daddys/Mommys.
Thank you!! :D
Funny, jennymc, last night's (6/26/11) sunset looked very much like that! So pretty!
What a beautiful picture, Cherie...I just showed this to my DH..who is a fireman as well and he said...saw that scene many times before but never at sunset..He agreed you captured the beauty there and also how appropriate this particular shot is for the 4th of July.
thanks joyful and please tell your DH thank you too...it was Tuesday morning at around 6 am when I was walking the dog.I see it often, just not as pretty as this was.
