How many of you are annoyed by the ice cream truck that drives around town?

Seriously. I don't think there has been anything more irritating in this town than that ice cream truck. Am I the only one who (not so) secretly wishes it would disappear?

I would rather see the DQ truck that came around when I was a kid! I nice cold milkshake would soothe this horrible throat of mine right about now.

I wish something so simple would bother me. I have enough worries on my end to worry about a simple ice cream truck! I think it's nice. Never had one in my town growing up! Yes, the music can get old at times... but hey it's nice for the kids and it's a nice thing! Complain about something worthy about complainning about...

May '12

Well, it does play horrible music!

I like ice cream trucks, don't get me wrong -- good memories.

But what's the deal with this truck's selection of strange tunes and weird arrangements of otherwise good tunes?

In the Hood In the Hood
May '12

Nope, doesnt bother me at all. Only wish it would come by my house and not just the development behind me. lol

I always love seeing the little and big kids run out to try and catch him. Maybe if you tried that and grabbed an ice cream bar it wouldnt be so annoying. :)

Life is way to short to let a fun ice cream truck song bother you. :)

Doesnt bother me either. Student, if thats what bothers you in life, then you are doing ok. Please! Kids love the ice cream man and the music he plays.

I don't mind the truck, just that song! Should they really be playing "La Cucaracha" for a food truck?

LOL Mike! So THAT'S what the crunchies are on the Sundae Cone!

It doesn't come around where I live, but I don't think it would bother me if it did. I do like to see them at some parks in the summer though. My favs are the Chocolate Chip Sandwhich and the Strawberry Shortcake.

Student, what is it that annoys you about it? The music or because you may have to stop or slow down? Or just the sight of it brings back traumatic childhood memories? LOL

Anyone notice how creepy some of the songs sound as the truck drives by and the doppler effect lowers the tones?

Kinda like how clowns are supposed to be happy but sometimes they're scary ;)

I think it's great! It brings me back to when I was a kid. Kids should experience cool things like that, IMO. I always yell quite loud, "the ice cream man", when he comes around my parents street. My Dad once said to me, and he was serious, "do you want a few dollars"? LMAO! I'm in my 30s, BTW. HAHAHAHA

Bad calliope like versions of On Top of Old Smokey?? What's not to like. If it's not for you, then there's an easy way to make it stop. He doesn't play a tune when he's stopped. ;-)

All I know is what could be more fitting on the forum than a Nutty Buddy or a rainbow colored Brain Freeze Pop??

abbadabba - Be careful what you wish for. I could send him up to you and make him do a special trip right up your driveway. Could you say no??

Waiting for the ice cream truck was a ritual for me as a kid. I liked the fudgebar that had a solid piece of chocolate in the middle . So find something else to rag on.

6:56? They're here almost every day like clockwork at 6:31 as the news is starting. OK, so who are the 20 people that stopped him and placed orders to delay him that much.

My theory is student actually posted this to increase sales. ;-)

And Abbadabba - Ready!!! Set!!! Here he comes!!!

I didn't think about it until I just spent the last half hour getting my son to sleep, only to have him wake up when the truck came by. Still not bothered in general, but he's not my favorite this minute.

In this day and age I'm surprised that these mobile ice cream trucks still exist . Maybe they will be replaced by removable (for winter) strategically placed automated ice cream kiosks . Well at least it's not this guy ;

I am all for them. They roll up our street all the time. It is a springtime-summer memory for the young and old for that matter, that will last forever. There are most definitely far more important isuues to worry about than the ICE CREAM MAN!!! I can only say that yelling...! LOL

Roll Van Halen now:

Love it..sure sign of summer coming. Mr Softee was the truck in my neighborhood. Sometimes the Good Humor truck came around, I don't remember music with him, maybe bells?

I was impressed to hear him playing "When the saints go marching in" brought back memories and made me wanna march instead of walk down the street.. lol..only problem is marching knocked all the sprinkles off my ice cream :(

I want to shoot the speakers out. I like the ice cream truck for the kids, but simple bells would be enough.

As a kid, Mr. Softee and the Good Humor truck were official signs that the summer was coming and no more school for awhile. The music was played for all to hear and run for the trucks, we did. We never had ice cream stored in the freezer compartment because the freezer area was so tiny, so as a treat, a few times a week, we were allowed to buy ice cream. With all the noise in our normal everyday existence, how could an ice cream truck be irritating?

Here in town I remember two trucks when I was a kid - The Pied Piper and the Good Humor.

Hahaha GC. (Yes, notafan, this is what bothers me. Hence me starting the thread.) I don't mind the ice cream truck driving around, I'm glad that person has a job and get to make children happy, and I'm glad the children are happy, it's great. But the literal sound of the ice cream truck- the weird music coming out of the speakers. When it drives around the neighborhood and is extremely loud one second, then fades away, then comes back super loud again, then it fades away again, it's just obnoxious! The bell sounds like it's from 40 years ago and plays everything out of tune, like an old carousel. Sometimes I'd like to come home from school and do my homework or eat my dinner or watch a movie without having to hear "Dreidel, Dreidel Dreidel" or "La Cucaracha". I'm in college, and trying to get work done at the end of the year and study for finals is stressful enough, without having to worry about this now. Evenings were so much more peaceful and relaxing before that all started.

Mark Mc, I know what you're talking about. Something unsettling about that. Kind of like minor chords being struck, gives it an erie sound. Stephen Kingish. Kind of expect to see the driver look like Lurch, or a scary clown.

abbadabba - I did my part. I don't know but maybe CR37 walking around with that axe had something to do with it.

I could careless for the most part, the annoying music though is a pain. Of course he always comes right around or right before dinner. Thankfully my kids have no clue what it is but I can't say the same thing for my husband who would run out there!

Man people will complain about just about anything on these boards. An Ice Cream truck really? Is there anything more harmless then having an ice cream truck drive down your street? Were none of you kids who use to love the sound? The ice cream truch signals the beginning of spring and summer.

And i hope "student" isn't one of these college kids that drive around town blasting Lady Gaga, or rap music out of her car then complaining about the sounds coming out of an ice cream truck. I mean really a college kid complaining about annoying music is pretty ironic

I can't imagine it being worse than cell phones going off in public with their various annoying ring tones. Then the loud talking that follows.

At least you have an idea when the ice cream man will be coming around, get some earplugs maybe? He hasn't come around my neighborhood, so I don't know how bad it is. I know when you're sensitive to certain noises, it can really get to you. Hopefully he keeps his visits and music brief.

I wish it came around in my town. I have fond memories of Mr. Softie coming around as a kid. Mom wasn't always happy as he came around dinner time, instead of when we were finished with dinner. If you had a dog he would give you a llittle doggie cone also, free. Those were the good ole days!

Lynnada...I am so glad I am not the only one...What is this with the kids screaming over everything anymore?? Even when they are outside playing...they just scream..I must be getting old and crotchity but am very glad I live out in "the boonies" and do not live in a development anymore where you cannot help but hear that. Give me the Ice cream truck noise any day!!!

well when a ice cream truck is to much to handle it might be time to look at your self as the problem. Joyful, I know what you mean I have two young girls & when there friends are over they all just scream all the time. I dont know if I acted that way as a kid. but they are my kids so I gotta just laugh about it.

The truck just makes me think of this Eddie Murphy skit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nwQGcsQjTJY

I should get a ring tone with this on Mommy's Cell Phone...

Kids don't just scream...they SHREAK. And for the parents, I suppose it's really cute and they hold their ears in mock horror. What a terrible thing for those who don't "own" those kids and worse yet...people who reside with pets :)

And, yes... a few weeks ago I was driving around town on a SUnday afternoon and the icecream truck was up by Centenary and it was playing the Halleluiah Chorus. I was laughing. It was so great. I just love to hear the truck go by and kids still run up to it.

Off topic for a minute, but besides shrieking kids, TV audiences used to applaud and now they "whoop". Just listen when Emeril goes "Bam!" or when Rachael Ray says "garlic".

Ridiculous!

WOW seriously people? Complaining about something as innocent as an ice cream truck ? There are so many other things to worry about....i would love the ice cream truck to come down my street....and if it ran over some of the neighbors that would be a great bonus ;)

I wish that business success, even if the music annoys some people. It's just a person trying to make a living.

Wow, I am so very grateful to live in a town/country where lives are so relatively calm and safe that the wonderful noise of an ice cream truck and children screaming while playing is a cause of concern for some.

Took the words right out of my mouth, Lynnada! I've actually left stores because of this.
