Invasion of Hackettstown stopped at Milltown NJ
Rebs got as far as Mr Coopers Gristmill on the Washington Turnpike in the small hamlet called Milltown outside of Chester NJ.

Love this stuff. I'm more of a Revolutionary War guy, but still...
I ran the Warrior Dash in Lewis Morris/Jockey Hollow, and I imagined Washington & his troops wintering there. There were no "good winters" back then for the troops.
Well JR, if you like this........well wait for 2013. I'm sure the cannon blasts will be heard all the way in Hackettstown! This will be the largest reenactment in New Jersey History. Who will win? You'll all know by looking to see what flag flies over the Post Office in he morning!
John C, Where can one find more info on this subject title of this thread? I didn't know the Rebs made it that far nor even into Jersey.. my civil war info is lacking. Now I'm curious.. details.. dates.. etc...

It was just a local reenactment in Chester that I was referring to here MrChevy. The only rebs that seemed to make it into Jersey were dead ones that died as prisoners of war while at Fort Delaware. But with the "southern half" of New Jersey below the Mason Dixon Line.... it was rumoured that there were more Rebs in Cape May than in all of Richmond LOL!
The closest the Southern Army came to Hackettstown is Camp Hill outside of Harrisburg and Hanover PA.
The "next rebel invasion" will take place in 2013 at a small canal town called "Waterloo"
Ah...got it. So I'm not crazy.. I was sure they hadn't made it this far north.. thanks for clearing that up :) I noted Waterloo... looks like a great time.
