There are a lot of medicated sprays and powders at your local pharmacy that do a pretty good job. Make sure to wear white socks.

I know this sounds disgusting but it works...when your son is showering have him urinate on his feet. Its a remedy I learned in the military. Also have him change his socks at least twice a day and use foot powder to help with moisture.

Once your son is better, make sure he rotates the shoes he wears. Not allowing his shoes to dry properly will invite the fungus back quite quickly.

Re: Home Remedies for Athlete's Foot

Earlier this year, I had a fungus infection that developed into cellulitis. The cellulitis was on both feet. The reason why it turned so bad was that I was unknowingly allergic to Lotrimin. The infection did not get better. So I kept applying it over and over again. I could not even put my shoes on after my feet swelled up. I now make sure I use shower shoes and do not walk bare foot.

Blue Star Ointment(sold in most grocery or drug stores) works good on athletes foot as well as ringworm and jock itch rash. It burns like a b**** for a few minutes, but works good.

Wash the feet

Daub on with cotton swabs, or better yet, buy a new little spray bottle, and use Hydrogen peroxide to spray on the feet. Dry well and rub with Vicks Vapo Rub.
Wear clean socks (White with no dye ) preferably socks that allow the foot to breath and not retain moisture.
Treat twice a day, Morning and night, and clean washed pair of socks at each treatment.

Wash socks and final rinse in a solution of alcohol added to the rinse water.

HHS mom, I buy it at Shoprite. It's with the vitamins. I'm sure most pharmacies would carry it as well. I think I saw it at Target by the vitamins as well. I use it all the time. My son had Poison Ivy and I put it on that and cleared it up quickly. I also use it to get rid of acne. It doesn't smell so great but it's an excellent all natural antiseptic.

When a family member was younger and involved in sports, athletes foot had gotten very bad as I was away and my ex did nothing to take care of the situation. The smell was so bad I could not believe how bad both feet looked. After a shower and very complete drying I used the double strength Lotrimin OTC. I also sprayed all the footware, but it was the sports foot ware that reeked.
I also used bleach in the shower that was used, after every use.

I stayed with the routine shower, dry well, apply Lottimin double strength and clean cotton socks. I kept spraying the sports foot ware after every time used. Bleach in shower.
It did go away, but I had to be diligent. I felt so bad that I had been away and the other parent let it get so bad. My child was so uncomfortable, for too long.
