Garage Addition
Most certainly don't forget the workshop aka man cave. Wish mine was bigger. Lights and plugs, enough power and wire gauge for the big tools.
I find the people door useful in power failures when electric doors stop working.....
Wire it for a Tesla and a lift! And yes, bigger is always better. My garage seems big because it has 14 ft. ceilings, but the footprint is small. With the lawnmower, generator, snowblower, workbench, storage, shop vac and assorted other crap taking up real estate, it's tight. Have to back in my big boy toy into spot #2 and wife pulls into spot #1 . Can barely get into the passenger side of either car. Next house has a 3 car minimum.
Don't make it too narrow - you want to be able to open the car doors. It has to be deep enough to put in a lawn mower or other tools - unless you want / have a shed for that equipment.
"So that's where you keep all that ammunition, huh, Mark? (-;"
Exposed to an uncontrolled environment and humidity? Nah...
Why do you think I have a 3 bedroom house all to myself?
Go deep...
18 to 20 foot ceilings. Garage doors that go straight up. 3 or 4 garage doors. Up stairs loft. At least 1 - 2 post lift and 1- 4 post lift. Depth to handle a car and a half. Standard door to the outside. All bays with power and air. Working sink. Heat. Enough shelving and storage to cover 2 times your needs. Several work benches based on tasks. At least 1 -230V outlet so you can weld. All walls painted 3/4 plywood. This allows anything to be wall mounted anywhere. Also makes reconfiguration easy.

I highly recommend the new garage door openers with soft open/close, motion sensor (for the light), quiet operation, and wifi connectivity. We got a new liftmaster unit this year and it's great. No more wondering 'Did I close the garage door?' five min after you left.
At first I thought it was just me. But the more posts there are, why does this sound more and more like a Viagra commercial??
Don't forget the reefer to keep the Beer Cold!
And the TV ...
I love the garage on the show "King of Queens" with Kevin James.
That garage is great, with the couch and the coffee table to place the pizza and Brew's; whilst watching the big screen TV!
My garage...is the what I call,"The Obstacle Course" .... Have to walk through sideways using a narrow path, and hope and pray I don't create an avalanche by bumping into anything along the way! LOL

My main garage is bigger then my house, about 1200 square feet, and I also have a single bay next to the house.
When I bought my house I could give a care less about the house, I went right for the garage.
I have since outgrown it though, and have to keep three cars outside and two cars at my parents. And yes both garages are filled with cars too
We have a three bay detached garage with no cars in it. It's about 900 square feet. Yes, it's the man cave. One bay is his workshop complete with kegerator, one bay has all the lawn and garden equipment and the third bay is relatively clear for him to do car work. It also has a full attic above it for storage. I do get to put my car in there when it's going to snow though. ;-)
HaHa! GC :)
Very funny to read all of the comments from the men stating that their garages are not big enough. I am a woman and in my house the complaint is just the opposite... I have a garage and a huge shed that are both completely empty lol! Therefore they serve absolutely no purpose and I wish I didn't have either :)
Old Gent - He'd better. I owned this place before I married him. So technically, I "let" him use it. ;-)
JRT, you can rent the garage. I have seen posts on here for garage space. I considered doing it, but I don't want to keep my car outside. My garage is 20' X 30' I believe. Was built by the Amish. Finished by local electric guys. Have 220 for a welder that I gave away after my husband died. Garage has two "people doors", an office and two bays. The cars fit as well as snow blower, lawn tractor, push mower, miscellaneous other things, Has heater in the celing that I haven't used in over 19 years. (I only go to the garage to get the cars or snow blower in the winter.)
Thanks Ms. Fishy, I have considered it and since my car stays outside anyway it wouldn't change anything for me :)
It all depends, if you are a car collector, or plan on ever getting into classics, or sports cars you are going to want to put them in the garage. If you are looking only to put your daily drivers in it, I would build it one bay bigger then you need. Trust me, you build it, you will fill it
I have a fireplace, couch, recliners, tv, all in my garage too, it is definitely my man cave!

Does Chris Brands Construction Add additions on exiting garages?
I want to create a new garage as showed in picture adding to the back end.
I want to add 25' off the back of my existing Garage.
That's sweet Mr. Negative. I will have something like that one day. And a barn. I also have a car stored at my mom's house. My neighbor heads to FL this week for 6 months and I watch over his house, so I will be using one of his bays.
"Mr. Negative, wonder where he puts the tools?"
The amount of tools you'd need to fix all of that German engineering probably wouldn't even fit in the garage. The best way to keep an old BMW, VW, or Porsche running is to get a new BMW, VW, or Porsche.
Oh, of course, but there wasn't one in that picture of the garage posted above.
It was probably in the shop.
Hah. I think it depends what years. Mid 80's and back are solid cars. I have two early 70's benzes and they give me very little trouble. I drive them regularly and just do normal maintenance. Now, late 80's into the 2000's? I agree with you. But that can be said of most cars.

I'll take Ralph Lauren's. Mostly for what's in it. 300SL Gullwing is my ultimate dream.
