The lead donor, Steve Somers... that's not the same guy that is/was a talk show host on WFAN, is it?

Different Somers ianimal. The WFAN guy is awesome, I used to love listening to him while schmoozing under the covers.

It's a little hard to tell from the map and my memory's not quite that good/familiar with the area. Does this plan cover the fields that were used for the Spring Festival?

Yes the corner that is on the Centenary side is where the field is going.

Re: Centenary Baseball Ballpark

Here’s the layout of the field to give you a better idea of where it is going

The college has the right idea. Make baseball a major. It's a very lucrative career, baseball players make more money than doctors, lawyers, judges, etc.

Dodgebaal most schools have a home field. It's a good thing for the community. Youths playing on 60/90 fields can enjoy it as well.

It will also be the high school’s home field as well as used by our Rec levels. Centenary has done a great job making sure this is something that will benefit the community

Mets,
Was not being sarcastic. Sure it's a good thing for the community, I agree. However, being a great professional baseball player is really profitable as well. Just ask David Wright how profitable baseball can be.
If you are good plenty of money to be made.

I feel more Hackettstown resident's should try and be more involved with the resoures Centenary offers. I've found Centenary more then willing to work with residents of our community and county. I also feel more young people graduating high school should looks very seriously at what Centenary has to offer. I have one son who graduated from HHS then Centenary with a BA in criminal justice and miner in English.

Oh I thought you were being funny. LOL... We have 3 kids on the CCM roster getting serious consideration by a major league team, one of them being my son. They each have to fill out paperwork and eventually all MLB clubs will have their info for the 2019 draft. Cole Kimball got drafted out of Centenary so if you have the goods you can get drafted from a D3 school too. Even if you're a bench player in the MLB, if you play long enough you can walk away a millionaire.

1973 AL Rookie of the Year Al Bumbry (who played in two WS and four ALCS with the Orioles) did not even play high school baseball … at the urging of people who thought he'd be good, he started playing at Virginia State (NOT the Virginia that's in the ACC) … the O's drafted him in the 11th round.

The guy who replaced Brooks Robinson as the O's starter at third base, and ended up with a long career with Baltimore and the Angels, Doug DeCinces, played at Pierce Community College in California.

"Even if you're a bench player in the MLB, if you play long enough you can walk away a millionaire."

Which is why I suggested it become a major. It's no joke. Beats working in a factory, on a roof, in a school, hospital or lab.

Truth be told you make more as a ball player than being a surgeon, with less school loan debt.

It's a great gig if you have the talent. Best wishes for your kids MetsMan.

The story goes that Mickey Mantle wanted to quit when he struggled early in his career. His dad asked him, so what are you gonna do? Work in the mines?

As Paul Harvey would say, now you know the REST of the story :-D

As I write this, Dodgers and Sox are tied at 2-2 at 2:22 a.m. in extra innings … ah, you've gotta love baseball (ugh).
