Best Household Cleaners
Hi, about now we are all wondering what a really great smelling cleaner can do for us in the home, asap.
Ugghhh,,,
We like Evenclear but in search of the perfect cleaner :)
Let's begin a thread and whistle while we work, lol.
I don't know that there is a "perfect" cleaner. But, since I sell a lot of homes, and I want them to be sparkling clean AND to smell nice, here are a few of my "Go To Cleaners."
1. For general surface cleaning, Lysol All-Purpose Cleaner, lemon scented. Comes in a yellow spray bottle. Cleans well, sanitizes, and smells nice.
2. For light touch-up surface cleaning, and for some other purposes like cleaning toilets, I like the lemon-scented, anti-bacterial cleaning wipes--the kind that come in a tall plastic bottle. The off-brand ones work as well as the more-expensive Lysol ones.
3. I use just about any common toilet-bowl cleaner--I don't notice much difference. But if the inside of your bowl gets stained or lots of mineral deposits, I'd recommend getting commercial bowl cleaner.
4. For basic tub/shower cleaning, I like Mr. Clean, straight from the bottle. I usually use an electric cleaning brush, like the Clorox Scrubtastic (though there are many other models).
5. For removing light mineral deposits from shower doors, shower handles, etc., I use C.L.R.
6. For heavy cleaning of some things, like tubs and shower doors, I use Easy-Off Fume Free oven cleaner--it's the one with the BLUE cap, NOT the other Easy-Off cleaners. It's very powerful, but use it carefully. Doesn't smell great, but it's amazing at removing tough grime or mineral deposits.
7. For windows, I always use the aerosol spray-foam glass cleaners, not your basic Windex-style blue spray cleaners.
Hope that helps somebody. As an added note, for basic air freshening, I like the apple-cinnamon scented Glade aerosol spray. I also like to have reed diffusers, in the bathrooms--my favorite is the Pure Comfort scent, from WoodWick (available from Amazon).
What a great thread! Can't wait till folks start telling us their "home brew" remedies too!
JW's list is pretty good. Would love to hear more from others on tools, like the Scrubtastic Cleaning brush. Tired of putting a little elbow in it, would rather let a scrubbing machine do the work.
Here's my addendums, probably a partial list, but can't remember them all.
1. I love Lysol's 4-in--1 spray over All-Purpose Cleaner although I just copped a bottle of that when I couldn't find the 4-in-1. Recently pulled my stove, tried everything in the cabinet against the greasy stove sides: 409, etc. ----> 4-in-1 cut it the best, bar none. It's my go to spray now. So, that's two votes for Lysol.
2., Kaboom for tubs n toilets. Might be the name: Kaboom....
3. Weiman polish for the stainless; learned that on HL and it's worth it. Just remember to put a liner on the floor or you might be slippin and sliddin for awhile :>)
4. Church and Dwight Clean Shower Daily Shower Spray. Do not accept substitutes, some have the same name. This is a daily spray not a scrubbing cleaner. You spray, the soap scum fades away. It's magic. It's a miracle. Really nice on glass and tile. May never need to scrub your shower again! Not for big cleaning jobs, but once it's clean --- use this stuff to avoid cleaning as often. My bathroom costs more than my car, why, I don't know, but this stuff keeps it brandy new.
5. Self-cleaning ovens --- sorry JW, there is a better way than ez-off death. Getting close to the time of year to clean the over, warm the house at the same time!
6. Febreze for fabrics, expensive but accept no substitutes. It really does clean odors, not mask them.
7. Windex, here I do accept substitutes, perhaps not as good, but better value. I use the Windex outdoors ONLY if I can grab a great sale. Have a lot of high windows.
8. Mop n Glow for floors, the one you spray n done. Although I am Swifter-ing it right now which I would not recommend for heavy traffic families but we are a lighter load these days. O Cedar Spin Mops are the tool, leaves floor clean but very little water behind. Dries really fast.
9. Resolve for carpet uh oh's. Jury is out on this one, would love to know what JW and others use for carpet stains.
10. Old English scratch remover --- just the scratch remover, not the other stuff. For scratches and general light polishing. I won't list it since I have a lot of antiques, a lot of wood, and going top-o-line gets very expensive. I do not use over-the-counter here.
I used to use Lysol but I think Fantastik does a better job in the kitchen so I switched. I've never had CLR work well. I use Chlorox gel instead on a tough toilet bowl stain. (used to be Dow) Scrubbing Bubbles for the shower. Everyday Windex on the windows.
Carpet stains - Bissell's "Litle Green" in one of the little mini shampooers. It's like a tiny steam clean in only a minute.
The biggest agreement seems to be Weiman for stainless.

Thanks. That explains it.
And now I know who makes the Kaboom....And now I know the rest of the story.....
Mine looks like the pic, actually even more generic; that's where I got thrown......
Looking for a stripper for my resilient flooring in the kitchen that has a “dirt patina” after a few decades.
No, Iman, not that kind of stripper.... something that will cut the decade of wax, clean the dirt, and then I can mop n glow again.
Might need a machine, but certainly need some chemicals. No, Iman, not those types of chemicals.
OH MY GOODNESS....thank you for Clean Shower......It works......anyone want to buy a slightly used squeegie? About $2.39 for a big bottle and $4 something for a bigger refill at Target
Thanks for the feedback, I honestly thought i might be psyching myself.
I heart heart chemicals and physics! Always amazes me to watch green pool water turn clear in 24 hours. Or put silver on a charged plate on a solution and the tarnish disappears.
I will try the Windex Drew, but sounds like work so will try to find some electric scrub brush, as mentioned above, to do the work. Can’t wait —- new tool. Oh boy!
GC - yeah, I was a fantastic/409 guy but like I said, tested on side of a range, a few years of greasy spillage and Lysol 4 in 1 won and changed my mind in a side by side test. But couldn’t find so trying Lysol All Purpose. Jury still out for me and recognize that test was extreme, not everyday. Frankly, not even sure I can test my new Lysol in the same fashion
