2020 NFL Season
Let's get started! The draft is next week.
The Eagles need help in a lot of spots. Top needs are WR, S, LB, CB, DE.
Boy I really hope they hit in this draft -- as there have been far too many overall misses the last few years. Really need to get S, LB in order and grab a stud WR. Hoping later rounds they can nab more quality CB, DE.
GOBIRDS - Yes. Let's hope Howie has done his homework extra diligently over the off season.
The Washington Redskins will be the Washington Football Team for 2020. WTF? Is that the most clever name they could come up with for interim use? I wonder what the mascot will be?
https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/29524343/washington-nfl-team-use-washington-football-team-now-sources-say
My guess is that there just wasn't enough time to "re-brand" and get trademarks in place for merchandising, etc., so they decided simply to "non-brand" for this season.
Sounds reasonable ianimal, and really, do you support a team because you like it’s name or you like the players and history.
Team owner Danny Snyder had the chance to own the trademark Washington Warriors , but let the opportunity pass . Since they play in Washington D.C. - Washington Weasels sounds more appropriate anyway .
https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2020/jul/9/dan-snyder-abandoned-washington-warriors-trademark/
You can rest assured that whatever name they ultimately decide on, it will have zero Native American connotations. Weasels is good, I like that...
If going DC, then...Swamp Things.
Traditional; Hogs.
Best idea, keep the logo, let Original Americans pick the name.
"Best idea, keep the logo, let Original Americans pick the name."
I think you miss the point... not that all Native Americans think alike, but there is a large enough contingent of them that are offended by the very suggestion of being someone's "mascot" that the logo is going to be gone and the new team name will not be American Indian-related.
In related news, a bunch of drunks from McSorley's will be storming and occupying South Bend later this summer (-;
Interesting that an American Indian designed the Logo back in 1973. Also, there has been a call to rename the Norte Dames’s Fighting Irish Nickname. The Cleveland Indians and Atlanta Braves are next on the cutting block by the cancel culture. The insanity will continue until we sanitize everything.
I'm glad the Atlanta Cowards(what I have always called them as a Mets' fan)have had their tomahawk chop cancelled by no fans in the stadium or the cancel culture . Either way it was long overdue for that annoying non-stop for hours long idiotic chant that had millions turning off the sound on their tv .The Braves and Indians names will probably stay , but that Lucky Charms leprechaun and those Keebler elves' days are numbered !
METS WIN ANOTHER OPENING GAME WHOO HOO !!!!!
Roger Goodell just announced that, as part of the NFL's international expansion, Arthur Blanks will be moving his team to the Philippines.
The Atlanta Falcons will henceforth be known as the Manila Folders...
An odd thing that only a guy like me would remember, 50 years ago on Sept. 28, 1970, defending champ Kansas City went to Baltimore and pounded the Baltimore Colts, on Monday Night Football. Those Colts only lost one more game and won the Super Bowl.
Hopefully (for me, anyway) this is a good omen for the Ravens.
Over Thanksgiving, I watched my favorites football team, currently known as the Football Team, previously known as that word that must not be repeated, play America’s Team. known as the Cowboys, a slur both against boys and cows but still OK. Both teams were 2 and 7 as the announcer said, depending on the weekend, either Football or America’s might be Playoff bound.
Our best years were strike years so maybe we are Super Bowl bound in this short year. Sounds right for the bowl to be won by the Football Team.
I ran out of fingers counting the fumbles and interceptions. But I’ll take the win. Anyone wanna by some culturally insensitive team memorabilia?
Back in 1994 the Baltimore entry in the Canadian Football League had to go by the official name of Football Team ... because the NFL would not let them call themselves the Baltimore Colts and took them to court over it ... imagine that.
Baltimore got its revenge by getting a team into the NFL, that everybody outside of Maryland hated ... and it won a Super Bowl. In your face, Tagliaboo-boo.
Baltimore leads the world in franchises winning a league championship ... the Colts in 1958, 59 and January of 71 ... the Stars of the USFL in 1985 ... the Stallions of the CFL in 1995 and now, transplanted from Cleveland, the despised Ravens ... twice.
Well, WFT went from 20% to 39% chance of making the play-offs. If they win the next four, they are virtually in. If they win 3 out of 4, 80% chance or better. 2 of 4, 30% chance so not so good. +10000 to win the super bowl, place those bets now....
RIP, Kevin Greene... gone much too soon.
Even though he only played 3 of his 15 seasons with the Black and Gold, he entered Canton wearing the tri-colored hypocycloids on his induction ring... Steeler for Life, Steeler for Eternity.

Yes, much much too young. RIP ... a great player who could really disrupt an opposing offense.
With two weeks to go Ravens have a good chance of going 11-5 and missing the playoffs. Meanwhile, the NFC East is what it is.
A good reason for the sub-.500 records over there is the fact that those teams have been playing the AFC North this year. The difference right now is that Washington is the only team over there who found a way to beat the Steelers.
Merry Christmas everyone
They put an ad in the middle of my post.
My comments draw that many viewers that they get ads?
Where's my share of the $$$ for delivering content? Expecting that to happen is certainly a pipe dream.
To the Jets fans ... you never know when a "bad break" (like winning a game to go 1-13 and losing the top pick) might turn out to be a good break.
Back in the late 60s the Eagles won a late season game (a week before the snowballs thrown at Santa game) and the fans were upset that the birds lost a chance at drafting OJ Simpson.
Anybody upset now that the Eagles never got OJ?
Great weekend of games this weekend!
The Steelers/Browns game was truly epic. However Ben Roethlisberger sitting on the bench literally crying at the end of the game and not congratulating the Browns players as is always protocol is inexcusable. Sportsmanship win or lose should always be exhibited. I thought he was better than that. Maybe next time don't throw 4 interceptions in a playoff game. Retire, it's over crybaby.
The WFT scared them in the 3rd Q; guess we will take what we can take. Didn't deserve to be there anyways.
Pitt laid an egg. Can’t run can’t win. Ben had the most completions ever in a nfl game, leads to more interceptions, with injury depleted d-backs, underperforming ol and questionable play calling got him feelin sad. He and JuJu maybe done with Pitt.
Greg, that is an insensitive statement you made. I didn't see the end of the game so I don't know the detail surrounding your statement. What I do know is he dedicated almost 2 decades of his life to professional football. To go down in flames like the Steelers did yesterday is not the way to possibly end his career. He probably needed some time to deal with the disaster of the first half of that game. I suppose you were always a good sport. Did you ever lose at any kind of competition, sports, promotion loss to another, and were always a gracious loser ? If you can say you always responded to those situations in a civil manner the you are a better man than me Gunga Din!

It was a pretty dismal 10 minutes and perhaps he was thinking as much about his future as his past...... I’m with Greg.
But I do know the meaning of the word perhaps :-)
I can’t really take credit for the idea; it’s all over the media.
Strangerdanger my response back to you was not dealing with the word "perhaps". It was on the statement " I’m with Greg". That to me is a "conclusion". just so you don't have to look it up.

I am just wondering what facts you have that lead you to that reasoning!!

Perhaps it was an emotional tsunami after the game about the game, his friend's retirement, his own future. But IMO he really should have bucked up and made the handshake. He's a bigger guy than that.

Hey, let's move on. I'm a WFT fan; I have my own crying towel and it's drenched.
Is anyone organizing a Superbowl party, lol
It must be an underground mission this year
Lamar Jackson got a concussion in that Buffalo game ... what game are you talking about ?..I think I recall him going straight off the field into the lockers, but so what? Didn't think anything of it. Social distancing! From what I've seen in his still young career, he seems like a good sport to me. I remember how it felt to lose a tournament game from high school basketball days, especially when you are used to winning and go in there expecting to win.
Andy I was referring to the Titans wildcard game. I personally don’t care either way but since someone was commenting earlier about Rothlisberger not shaking hands I just mentioned that nobody thought twice of Lamar running off the field after the game without congratulating anybody
Some of his teammates were dancing on the Titans' logo on the field ... that wasn't necessary but "being nice" is not a job requirement in a sport where you are expected to knock your opponent's block off.
I remember my first varsity game in high school ... coach called me over and said, "Andy, you see that guy wearing number 55? I want you to knock him on his xxx&%#"
As a Ravens' fan, I've had a lot of respect for Big Ben .... the guy is good, because he has never lacked confidence. What fans should always ask themselves about the guys on rival teams... would I like to see him playing for us? Heck yeah! Jackson could always be a tailback who throws an occasional option pass when the defense gets sucked in.
What about sports commentator Colin Cowherd suggesting if Mahomes cant get out of concussion protocol by Sunday the AFC championship should be postponed. Is this guy kidding- at first I thought so but he wasn't. CRAZY!!!
Check out that play, Mahomes head never makes significant contact with anything, I know he could still be concussed but it was the pulling on his neck as they explained it was a nerve injury at first. Potentially a devastating injury. I wonder if the how the extent of the injury influences his playing.
Something good came out of Lamar Jackson's injury that has given this Baltimore fan a reason to root for Buffalo this week, regardless of whether or not Mahomes plays.
By the way, on any given Sunday, HENNE-thing is possible.
Y'all could look up Blessings in a Backpack on google, it's Lamar's favorite charity. The Buffalo Bills' "mafia" and other sundry crazy fans, are now supporting Lamar's charity, as a nice gesture ...
Go Bills (I usually root for the Eastern teams that make it this far, anyway).

Here's a link :-D
My prediction for today:
The Washington Football Team will not win the Super Bowl.
:>)
There's always next year! How about a name, the Washington Walk and Chew Gummies?
I see Drew Brees retired today. He was always fun to watch.

New NFL tv deal being negotiated . So far the Thursday night game is exclusively going to Amazon Prime(one billion dollars for 17 games) , unless it's a local team which will also be shown on a local network . ESPN Plus takes over the Sunday Ticket from Direct TV . Does anyone still buy that package with the Redzone channel available ?
In other NFL news the possible DeShaun Watson trade to the Jets looks dead as the allegations against Watson , whether true or not , pile up .
https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/31086798/houston-texans-qb-deshaun-watson-accused-sexual-assault-third-civil-lawsuit
97 I don’t think the Jets were ever going to trade for him. now Watson can join Cuomo in misery
From what I heard the Jets absolutely wanted Watson as did Miami , but Houston wasn't taking calls from anyone and seemed intent on making him sit out the season , especially after signing Tyrod Taylor to a one year deal . As far as the allegations go reportedly the lawyer filing the civil suit wanted to settle for a six figure sum before making it public . Just glad no Cowboys were involved this time .
https://www.houstonchronicle.com/texas-sports-nation/john-mcclain/article/McClain-The-legal-buzz-around-Deshaun-Watson-16032541.php
Gee I wonder if that ambulance chasing lawyer posting for more clients on his social media page had anything to do with that ? Funny how they were just fine and dandy with things until the promise of free money filled the air .Two of the first 3 promised to walk away with a fat cash payment before anything became public .One of them flew from Atlanta to Houston to give him a massage . I'm guessing she did something no masseuse in Houston would do ? Hows does Patriots owner Bob Kraft get away with it unscathed ?
Sunday Ticket was not part of yesterday’s massive TV rights announcement. That deal is still being negotiated, but I expect DirecTv will lose the rights. Those will probably go to a steaming player — not sure who can afford the price tag after yesterday’s spending spree by the Networks. Maybe Apple or Netflix???
Mar '21
Direct TV doesn't want the Sunday Ticket because they lose money on it as no one who isn't running a sports bar is buying it anymore . They have it until 2023 , but whatever happens to it then I'm guessing a price of 300 dollars a year is a cost not many are willing to pay . I heard that from an early radio report yesterday afternoon , so I'm guessing if ESPN Plus gets it - it will be available be on a much different pricing structure .
NFL Network's GameDay did a real good job all season for fans who follow an out of town team across the country. Got all the highlights and stats in a timely fashion.
Jets' Sam Darnold traded today to the Panthers for a 2021 6th , 2022 2nd , and 4th round picks . Let the Zach Wilson era begin !
https://www.nfl.com/news/jets-trade-sam-darnold-to-panthers-for-three-draft-picks
I wonder what the Jets will be able to get for Zach Wilson ahead of the 2024 draft.
USC QBs never amounted to much with Carson Palmer being their gold standard .I wonder how much worse old fat lazy Rothy will be for Pitt next year ? A major rebuild on the way for that team in 22 , of course the Jets are always rebuilding to no avail .
