Abandoned buildings for photography

Anyone know of any in the area where I could go and photograph a model without getting nailed for trespassing or pissing people off? Would love to find an old barn or farm house.

Old farm across from 7-11 on Rt 517. It's State property. Nice old barns and a house. Post some images from your shoot??

There's a couple of abandoned houses on 513 in Middle Valley, very close to the road. One is stone and falling down. Always thought it looked neat.

I've been meaning to get to that farm too. Very full of character...and hopefully not any snake dens? Yikes!

Yeah I've seen that farm across from the panther valley mall but thought it was posted. I think I'll give that a go in a few weeks. I'm new to the area and looking for some great spots for shooting models outdoors. Spring is right around the corner! Thanks people.

My family farmed that farm for 40 years. It was such a great place to grow up and to explore+a ton of history there.

Re: Abandoned buildings for photography

That farm on 517 is popular with the local photographers. Here is one I did there last fall. And, there are other abandoned properties in Allamuchy State Park.

Nice shot rad...you on model mayhem by any chance?

Re: Abandoned buildings for photography

There is this on Jane Chapel Road. There are State of NJ signs on the poles by the street so I think this is on public land. Not so pretty inside but there is a ladder and a loft.

Re: Abandoned buildings for photography

And here is my reference shot of the front of the house on 517

Is that farm on the right going west before panther valley mall? Can you drive right up to the house or is the road all grown in?
Nice pictures RAD. I used to love checking out old places. The trespassing part of it got tough and even if a property is not posted they can still get you for trespassing.

The abandoned farm on rt 517 near Panther Valley is known on the internet as The Hackettstown Slaughter House. There are many pictures of the site to view.

Re: Abandoned buildings for photography

4paws: yes, that is the one across from the gas station at the Panther Valley Mall. Just turn into the road and stop at the gate - which is always closed as far as I have seen. Alternatively, park over by the gas station and walk over.

Here is a shot in the window on the wall facing Rt 517.

Re: Abandoned buildings for photography

My very talented DIL takes a lot of barn photos. She actually makes them look interesting.

If you go towards Newton,NJ , on Rte 206, there is an old religious school I think on the left. The buildings are very old and it is actually a shame it is sitting there empty, but the one building is very pretty , almost castle like. I am actually curious about the history of this place. It's really cool.

The religious school on Rt 206 near Newton was formally St. Pauls abbey. It was at one time a seminary for educating Catholic priests.

Last summer I was out taking pictures. At Saxton Falls dam there was a photography session going on with a scantily clad young woman. I have no idea what the pictures were for. I did not bother to ask any of the people involved.

I've always thought this was pretty, the old ice house/factory in Hardwick. The 1st pic is an old farmstead that's being restored, the rest are what I'm referring to. It's a nice short hike too :)

Is that the house across the road from the lake Lori? I don't remember the stone remains there either. Hidden from the road? Looks really cool. Been a long time since I've been up that way.

Meister,

Yes, the house is across from the lake. The stone remains are on the other side of the lake. Coming from town you would make a right just before the lake, onto Spring Valley Rd, and immediately after passing a horse farm on the left hand side of the road there is an area to park and a path to follow. If you see Primrose Rd/Ln you went too far.

Gotcha. Wasn't there a blacksmith in that house at one point? Long time ago.

Meister, I believe a blacksmith may have lived in the house next to this one, which is sadly crumbling to the ground...

On weirdnj.com there are also nice suggestions for people who like to visit abandoned and unusual properties. I'm imagining a photo shoot at Jungle Habitat! Info here: http://weirdnj.com/category/stories/abandoned/
